This is great news!!! Apparently I'm in the minority here, sorry that the tons of posters above me have not shared my experience with this incredible game.
According to my stats I'm at 190 hours play time, my original investment of $50 has far exceeded my expectations for cost of entertainment per hour.

Valve have very strange priorities since the past two or three years, but of course they are right and we are wrong, they had to make a sequel to L4D that soon, for reasons we simple consumers will never understand nor would ever need to understand, as long as we pay, they're happy. I'm afraid Valve aren't exactly what they used to be.

Jeez... For 190 hours you should be godly at it...
Not going to buy the second one. Not going to buy into that fucking hype again.

The first game is ok, but it is having a tough time stealing me away from TF2, so I can't imagine I will be buying the sequel. I really only play it if someone invites me to play through Steam, or if I have an overwhelming desire to kill zombies, which does happen on occasion.
Seems unlike Valve to release a sequel so soon.

Add me as your friend on steam already. >_> I need to know what server to go to on TF2 so I can kick your ass.
This is the server I always see him playing at:

Wow..releasing a sequel only a year after the original?
Everyone's main critcism with Left4Dead was t hat it didn't have enough content, but fans kept saying "they'll add more - just look at TF2!".
Now they drop a sequel on us...
Heh..only a year after the original at that. You'd think they'd at least make it DLC or an expansion rather than probably making us pay full price again for half a game.

This. I'm glad I only paid $20 for L4D. If I were one of the people who paid full price I would feel really slighted to have to buy the sequel a year after the first came out .. that's not really much of a lifetime for an (essentially) exclusively online game. New content for TF2, new content for L4D, a L4D sequel.. and still no Ep3? Come on.

I'm hoping this is the result of them going in to make more content and realizing they also wanted to address many fallbacks of the original game. I'll also have to wait for the price since I bought 4 copies of L4D already. L4D has a lot of potential in every area of the game, not just the maps. It needs more play styles, less scripted attacks, more zombie types, more interaction with the environment. I hope they take a look at Killing Floor since it has a refreshing look at how to make unique zombies without making every unique attack some scripted sequence. Not that I'd want L4D to be like KF, but I think it could learn a few things. (RPG elements work well in these games as well)
