Thought I'd pass this on, I've been following this for some time, they're actually pretty far along in development which you can tell by this post :

http://www.grimrock.net/2014/01/27/new-screenshots-and-a-list-of-features/

. . .
The story of Grimrock 2 will not be a direct continuum to Grimrock 1, but will be a completely new story with new characters that will expand the Grimrock universe.

One of the few things some reviewers criticized about Grimrock 1 was monster behavior in combat. We have attacked this problem directly and rewritten the monster AI entirely. As a result monsters are now smarter and they know how to use their larger numbers to their advantage. The repertoire of tricks they know has been expanded greatly. For example, some monsters can call other monsters for help and can use group tactics against you. Of course the behavior of monsters depends on their intelligence so the most stupid and most fierce monsters are still, well, fierce and stupid as they should be. And talking of monsters, there will be lots of new monsters with some of the old, familiar faces making an occasional appearance for old times sake.

. . . the character skill system has been completely redesigned and replaced with a perk-buy system that allows for more flexible character skill development.

The new spellcasting panel allows mouse gestures to be used to cast spells.

Of course, Grimrock 2 also has new spells, a new playable race (with portraits to go) and a new character class. These combined with over a hundred new items, 22 new monsters, new environments, day to night cycle, plus as much more as we have time to crank in, means a lot of new stuff to have fun with!

Much more info on link, plus some screenies and links to more info on the development of Grimrock II.

I wasnt impressed with the first one. It was a very pretty reminder of why I never liked Eye of the Beholder.

YES! One of the very few pre-orders that I will do.

And I loved Eye of the Beholder.

I'm enjoying Might and Magic 10 more than Legend of Grimrock. LoG was a bit too claustrophobic.

One of the best games of the year.

Your post is like saying you don't like bacon. Funny how tastes differ. New one is instabuy.

In case you didn't read the link :

The events of Legend of Grimrock 2 will happen on the Isle of Nex, a secluded island faraway from civilization. An island is a perfect place to setup an unforgettable dungeon crawling experience because we can mix indoor and outdoor locations seamlessly while still maintaining that atmosphere of mystery and danger, and the density of interesting things that is at the heart of Grimrock. If you think about it, the island is the perfect microcosm, where the party may explore dark woods, misty swamps, underground tunnels and ancient ruins without need to travel great distances. For us, an island is the perfect “dungeon” with a welcome variety of different types of environments.

I've been following this one for quite some time now, there've been some pretty cool outdoor screenshots posted over that time, there's two on the linked post.
There's a lot more info if you go to their Main page and go through the updates they've posted over the last year or so.

LoG2 look stunning!
The first one, which I never finished, was kind of meh. Fun for a limited time.
I'll give it another shot though.

Thanks for posting!

I never played the first LoG, but I like it very much, because it's essentially 21st century version of Dungeon Master, which I STILL PLAY on some rare occasions (you just can't beat that game's concept and... basically anything!).

Indications are that LoG 1 is going to be on sale in the currently running GOG promotion.

They're doing a new game ~ every hour, so you may want to watch when they get close to the year 2011/2012.

Nor was i;

I had issues with the fact that too much of the main quest was "puzzle-like".
If someone wanted to solve the game by good'ol grinding and fighting, they couldn't. Too much important stuff (like the main weapons for fighters, far superior armours, spells, and so forth) was only accessible through puzzles, and good luck beating the game without it.

Also, exp kinda runs out after a while. Respawning mobs start to give almost nothing, so .. meh.

@Octopuss

Dungeon Master was superior. No doubt about it. Older tech, but way more open.

I agree. Way too much emphasis on puzzles in the first game. Hopefully it eases up on that in the next one

I dont mind puzzles, if they are in an open world like Elder Scrolls where I can run off, do something else, and come back when it damn well pleases me.

Am just not a big fan of one huge dungeon with no way up or out. I'll deal with gargantuan caverns in an open game that let me come and go as I please. But being perpetually stuck just gets boring.

Great. I'll be looking forward for this. The first one was a nice throwback. I played through it twice I think, worth the on sale price. I think the main potential was for user generated dungeons but I never did look to see how that went.

Well if they introduce a sequel so soon, the first one is not gonna get many user mods.
Unless those mods are fully compatible with the new game.

People should be clear what Grimrock is: it's a puzzle game in an RPG skin. It is not a real 'RPG' in my opinion except in using some of the superficial designs.

The point though is that it's an excellent puzzle game set in the dungeon.

I find the best games to have serious flaws, and Grimrock is no exception. Things like the design and function of races and classes in setting up a group seem crappily done.

It's a fantastic gaming experience.

I'm expecting good things from grimlock 2; one thing to remember is that there was minimal budget for grimlock; with grimlock 2 they had the following:
a) grimlock as a starting point (core engine)
b) significant more revenue as grimlock sold very well
-
I didn't think grimlock was much of a story (rpg) but it looks like with grimlock 2 (from screen shots) they not only improved the puzzles and such they spent quite a bit of time flushing out the rpg aspect.

I liked the idea of Legend of Grimrock more then the game itself. I never actually finished the game. I just got tired of spending 2 hours solving a puzzle that kept teleporting back to the start until I realized that I had to spin around and walk it backwards or some stupid thing.

See, that's where playing the original Dungeon Master pays off
