I liked the idea of Legend of Grimrock more then the game itself. I never actually finished the game. I just got tired of spending 2 hours solving a puzzle that kept teleporting back to the start until I realized that I had to spin around and walk it backwards or some stupid thing.

I completely agree, some of the puzzles were a bit too much. I enjoyed the concept and the atmosphere, but the puzzles killed me.

I'd prefer less of the puzzles and move of just the standard dungeon crawling aspect. I enjoyed the game but got tired of some of the puzzles.

the puzzles in the first Grimrock made me pull my hair out and the hair that did remain turned grey and i'm only 30 years old! also it raped my grandmother.

i liked the game but rage-quit on the 8th floor (out of 10? 13?)

Loved the first one. The combat needed more depth, but man were most of those puzzles satisfying as hell to figure out.

One of the best games of the year.

Your post is like saying you don't like bacon. Funny how tastes differ. New one is instabuy.

I'm with him, wasn't impressed. And I was a big big fan of MM6 and 7 back in the day. Maybe i'll try it again...

To be fair, you need to appreciate what it is. It's not a 'new MM6' (which I also really liked). It's a game with the skin of a class RPG but not the gameplay, or more specifically with the basics of the gameplay, but the real game is a puzzle game. If you are looking for a modern MM6, it's not that. It's a great puzzle game using that sort of game's interface.

Earlier games could be 'RPG's with a few puzzles for flavor'. Grimrock is 'a puzzle game with a little bit of RPG for flavor.'

Legend of Grimrock is more akin to Dungeon Master.

There is an RTS combat aspect to it, but there is also the puzzle/story side to the game.

It's grid based movement/combat, which takes a bit getting used too, but if you liked (or are familiar with) Dungeon Master or similar, you'll really like Legend of Grimrock.

This is a very well made game for the genre it targets.

For all you guys saying you don't like the puzzles but enjoyed the rest of the gameplay....I tend to agree. So I suggest Might and Magic 10 which is effectively Grimlock without most of the puzzles. I enjoyed it much more.

Aww man..I was hoping #2 would be along the lines of Dungeon Master II: The Legend of Skullkeep - still set completely inside a dungeon with some minor improvements.

Who am I kidding... this is what I grew up playing... and will of course buy it and play the hell out of it as well.

DM 2 was kind of fail in my opinion. I played it a lot, but it lacked something. I can't really tell what, but I got bored once I got inside the keep. For some reason it felt extremely short compared to the original.

Wow i've been waiting for this game since it was annouced. the first one was not great imo but had awesome puzzles in it, but got tired of the more "generic" dungeon feel of it.

This one though is looking awesome and hope it is as gripping as Crusaders of the Dark Savant was!

Great. Somehow my LoGII pre-order through Humble activated to my son's Steam account. I hope I can get Humble to fix it before tomorrow.

Some Reviews are coming in - I won't post the direct links due to spoilers, but here's the thread they're being listed at :

http://www.grimrock.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6848

Some scores :

Pixel Related - 9.5/10
Corsual (Germany) - 5/5
IGN Russia - 9/10
RPGFan - 95% & Editor's Choice
Saving Content - 5/5
Eurogamer.de - 9/10

Rock, Paper, Shotgun - no score yet, but here's a quote :

Everything in this sequel is bigger, more elaborate, more detailed, and absolutely better. Which, after such a lovely first game, is quite the thing. You will be able to sink days and days into this, and still come away with secrets undiscovered, doors unopened. And I think a real respect for a game that is not only itself phenomenally smart, but one that thinks you are too. It’s a joy, so splendidly crafted, so stuffed with original ideas and surprises. This isn’t nostalgia any more – it’s a massive step forward.

FWIW - Saw one was 7/10 from a Czech reviewer, but he's only done 10 reviews so . . .

EDIT :

Also meant to add that this is available on GOG as well

I'm launching this soon, can't wait! Looks like a worthy successor to the first game and one hell of a better game!

Oh man I can't wait.

Except that I can, and will. I can't imagine TB passing up on this game when he gets better.

Or, you know, make use of the DRM free version. Then the problem will never again occur.
