Or, you know, make use of the DRM free version. Then the problem will never again occur.

I pre-purchased through Almost Human's website, which they were using HumbleBundle for the payment and key delivery system. At the time, they were only selling the game using a Steam key via the HumbleBundle site, I believe. This wasn't a Steam issue, this was a HumbleBundle site issue, that as of this afternoon, still I still haven't received a response from their support team.

When I looked on the Humble Bundle site after reading your post it said Steam + DRM free was there, but maybe it doesn't automatically pass that bit on if it was through the devs site.

Hilariously there are torrents of the game... Someone went to the effort of cracking the Steam version rather than, you know, having the DRM free version up there. Makes you wonder what's wrong with people and why (other) devs hate DRM free so much. People will crack DRM just because, even if they don't even need to.

I've haven't had a lot of time, but I've played a few Mods, and they're pretty decent.

Here's a list of some of them :

*snip*

(enormous list of mods)

well, that is impressive. it might turn out that the mods are better than the original.
the first Neverwinter was like that, a so so campaign (dictated by the new, "must be super-cool" image that D&D wants to have) got replaced by a multitude of adventure modules written in gool ol' classic grim and dark D&D style.
way more fun that the main campaign.

i might give grimrock another try. suxx that i dont have it anymore, i'll have to buy it .. what is it now, five bucks?

I did this pre purchase; but I received both a steam key and the ability to download the drm free version from humblebundle.

Last time it was on sale on GOG it was about $2.50 I think.

It was also in one of the Humble Bundles, I don't remember which one, so you may be able to grab it there too.

Seems like it's like the first one but more varied (more classes, more environments, etc.). Still holding out for TB's first impressions but if community feedback continues to be this positive I'll buy it regardless.

Not only that, but it's not nearly as linear.

I found the essence gem thing from the boss fight in the bog, then the 2 other gems topside that were easy to spot, but I have roamed all over this bog, unlocking the entire map and I can't find the 4th crystal thingy. wtfm8

the first boss. the weed guy is pissing me off..

It's not hard at all. In fact, it's easier than most other fights beyond that point because this entity doesn't move, doesn't immediately chase you when you move. As you're standing in one spot waiting for it to appear, listen or watch. When you hear something rumble in one direction, move the opposite direction or side step the sound.

This first boss fight is teaching you how to move in a fight in case you didn't learn it with the previous enemies. It's teaching you that you don't have to just stand there like a pin cushion.

The rest of the game will chew your face off if you don't know how to properly move around the environment in a fight. Back off, use some ranged, quickly move in around the side or the back for melee, avoid its ranged attacks, rinse and repeat.

Edit: If you think the weed boss is hard, wait until you reach the earth boss.

This is quite a good game. It's really very much unlike modern games, because the movement is very, well, antiquated. It's also not a game you can pound through level after level, it's much slower paced than that and has taken some adjusting after being used to modern RPGs.

I can envision getting stuck at some point and wondering where the heck I'm supposed to find some gem I didn't get, but hopefully that won't happen.

Got the game, so far so good.

I ended up making my Light Weapons Rogue a minotaur, so that his higher strength is applied to both his weapons when he dual wields.

I love that spell runes must now be contiguous, so figuring them out without a scroll is much easier. Also that weapon attack speed is now listed ("Cooldown: 3.5 seconds). AND that weapon special abilities are now manually activated, though I'm not a high enough level to actually use them yet.

Well, I've uncovered as much as I can at the moment. Ran into a couple puzzles I just can't figure out. One in particular is with the block in the cemetery. Will work on it more tomorrow.
