Question Legion slim 5 display broken

Hello friends, I hope you're doing well.

I have a Legion Slim 5 laptop, and its display has an issue where the lower half of the screen gets corrupted every 4 seconds and then returns to normal. I've switched between the two graphics cards, but the problem persists. I also tested it in the BIOS and Windows Safe Mode, and the issue still remains. The graphics card drivers are up to date.

This started happening during a game. Currently, there is no drop in processing or graphics performance, it's just this display issue that occurs every 4 seconds.

It's very likely that the issue is either with the display connections or the display itself. I've attached a picture of the laptop. I would appreciate it if you could share any similar experiences or knowledge you have regarding this issue.

Well, you can rule out a GPU issue by connecting to a TV or monitor. If it's the display they can usually be replaced fairly easily in about 10-15 mins. I upgrade my laptops to 4K displays when I get them.

You can strip it down to check the connectors and cables, then if you see nothing, it's already that much closer to replacing the screen. Is there a Legion owner's forum? They might have some insights including replacement screen options, or why it happens if you don't want it to just do the same thing again, considering it's only last year's model so not like it should have worn out yet... depending on how you use it, I suppose daily gaming could be hard on a laptop.

I assume it is out of warranty?

did you install the "normal" NV Gaming Ready driver, or their Optimus/+ laptop driver for those with a MUX.

I agree with @mindless1 .

I'd still test it on an external display simply to ensure that the GPU is working properly. However, that test would not be definitive for anything else since you are using a different display output utilizing different cabling/connections to the motherboard.

Were it my system, if it works properly on an external display, I'd next check/replace the display cable between the display and the motherboard. The display cable gets flexed every single time the laptop display is opened and closed, so it is statistically more likely to end up damaged than is the display panel itself. Plus, since it has to be routed through the hinge assembly, it could easily be pinched or wear damaged if it was routed incorrectly when the laptop was assembled (something I've seen several times in the past on cheaper Dell and HP laptops).
