lyods of london will pay him millions if he gets hurt and can't play.

He likely has a multimillion dollar insurance policy. Hes just as likely to blow his knee out playing the NFL next year which would result in the same issue.

And besides blowing a knee isnt that bad, their are several running backs that blew a knee in their junior or senior years and have been drafted and are making millions, and will only make more when their contracts are up.

Finally, common sense prevails.

bad decision..... I would have definitely taken the $$$

yeah, plus if he gets hurt, he is screwed for the rest of his life

Physically, financially, and psychologically. Regrets like that could be painful. And if he gets injured, USC won't love him much anymore either, negating the stated reason for staying.

Pro football contracts arent guarranteed money. Hes just as likely to get injured next year playing pro ball as he would be playing college ball.

true but the 10-20 million dollar signing bonus is guaranteed I believe. That's why these guys drafted in the upper end of the first round hold out, to get as much guaranteed money as possible in the signing bonus.

that's ok. i'd prefer to see aaron rodgers qbing the 49ers next year. now, whether he can make it thru the season in one piece, given their o-line is another story...

they need to fix that o-line first before getting a QB. Maybe with a better o-line the niners can actually have a good running game to help any QB.

common sense would say to take the money ... if he blows a knee in the NFL, he'll still have his signing bonus.

dumb ass. It would only be fair if he'd learn how stupid he is the hard way and have a really bad, thiesmann like leg break.

``I realized the opportunity right now to support my family by going to the NFL early, but to me I think college football and this whole atmosphere here and being with my fans and my teammates ... is ultimately more satisfying and will make me happier than any amount of money could make someone happy,'' he (Leinart) said.

Famous last words before fading into obscurity? =)

i think i would've taken the money, but not for myself--
i'd do it so i could support my family and so my parents wouldn't have to work their crappy jobs anymore.

Props to him for going against the norm and choosing to stick around for another year. He had a stellar year with an awesome team. I would expect nothing less than the same for the next season. Besides who would want to play for the 49er's. /shudder

WTF is another year though...they aren't having to pay for his college education, I am sure they are doing fine.
