Len Bias

What do you think? I'm a Celtics fan, but he died when I was 2. What do you remember? What did he mean to you? Whats your first thought when you hear the name?

I was an undergrad at Maryland when Len Bias played. I thought he could have been the greatest basketball player that UMD produced. When he died it was a big downer and it took a long time for Maryland to recover.

I was in junior high and I thought he was going to be something special. Now when I hear his name, I think of nothing more than him being a two bit druggie. I can't go so far as to say it serves him right, few deserve that, but, he was a big boy and knew what he was doing. I don't feel sorry for people that don't have two lungs because they keep smoking either.

Like all senseless deaths...what a waste of life.

I was in High School and it seemed that for a time, atheletes were dropping like flies from drugs/heart conditions/accidents in the late 80's.

He was awesome. I watched him beat UNC practically all by himself once, giving them their first loss in the Kremlin, oops, the Dean Dome.

His death was the beginning of the end of the Celtics dynasty. He would've been the one to take over from Bird, Mchale, etc.

His death ruined the University of Maryland. It got a frat kicked off of campus and the entire Greek system got cracked down on and it has never recovered fully. The campus became a dry campus. The basketball program went down the toilet for about 10 years. The party school era sadly ended forever.
