Recently Acquired a Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop. Not a total barn burner I know, but I plan on upgrading most of the major components. Pretty much all the performance affecting parts can be upgraded by the owner without voiding the warranty.
Anyway, It came with a single 512MB sodimm. I am pondering whether to get another 512mb or a 1gb dimm.
Here is my quandry.
On the intel website it says the 945GM express chipset is dual OR single channel capable.
On the Lenovo website there is no mention of dual or single channel-ness in any of the spec, maintainance docs, or product accessory pages. A tech support fella said yes he thinks it does.
Anybody out there KNOW!?
Another nagging issue is whether it really is as finicky for memory as Lenovo claims. I think they just want me to be pay their inflated ram prices. But I have had bad experiences with fincky ram on previous computers. (My old Athlon 2500M powered gigabyte mobo hated OCZ ram).
Any knowledge on this?
Thanks.

the motherboard is dual channel capable. if you put 2 sticks of 512 or 1gb, it will run in dual channel. what the site probably meant is if you put a SINGLE stick in, it'll run in single channel.

basically, if it said dual-channel only, the laptop would not be capable of running with a single stick in it because a single stick can only run in single channel. the put single and dual channel not to confuse the customer, but i guess it ended up confusing the customer even more

motherboard? Actually its a notebook/laptop I am refering to. Kind of confusing since the same chipset has so many variants which show up in desktop and laptop models. And some laptop chips on desktops (gigabyte for one).
But I think you might be right here.

just being clear on that. You said motherboard. Which is usually the terminology for desktops, laptops I usually see them called mainboard or logic board or heck also motherboard. Just trying to be clear.
