Can someone comment on this machine and compare it to the ASUS K55a which I picked up at Best Buy this week for $480?

The Asus uses the newer 3rd gen processor which comes with better integrated graphics as well (HD4000 vs. 3000). The 3rd gen stuff is faster, runs cooler and should consume less power (so less battery life). Asus is a pretty solid brand so durability should be similar. Both have same screen resolution. I say yours should be worth the extra price especially since this one has a rebate.

I need a new laptop. I was a little concerned with getting an Asus serviced but I like their computers. That Asus must be dual core I-5 or they would be plastering quad core all over the ad. Nice computer though

Most of the specs look identical to me.
