Listed a refurb notebook with i7-7500u processor. Received it and it was a i5-7200u. I had someone to bring the notebook to overseas for me. Now i can't refund this shit without bringing it back to the states. They won't offer a partial refund for their wrongdoings, it is absurd. One of the shittiest companies I've ever dealt with.

Lesson: Never ever buy from lenovo.com

Sounds like they offered to fix it, but you have a unique situation. Mistakes happen, I recommend not ordering from anywhere if you don't like mistakes like this.

I've heard some pretty bad stories about Lenovo's current customer support, even for normal US support

Wait. Isn't this the same person whom back in 2016 said Amazon Prime was a scam because he "accidentally" signed up for it?

I'm not a fan of lenovo myself. The Y510p was sold with a known issue with the wifi card. They block most wifi adapters too so made it a pita to fix. They would swap it but same problem would keep occurring.

Scam implies intent. Sounds more like a mistake that they can't fix for you because your cheap ass tried to bypass international taxes on electronics by having someone carry it across international borders for you. No one was hurt, really.

Lol!

Lenovo outlet is well known to be not 100% accurate with their refurb descriptions. Should've had your friend checked it out when they got it in the states. Lenovo sold it to a US customer, so it's not unreasonable to expect you to send it back to the states.

I had a poor experience with Lenovo as well though it wasn't entirely their fault. I bought my son a pretty high end Lenovo laptop about 6 years ago and had it shipped to my office. UPS did not deliver on schedule (as I recall, they said there was nobody at the front desk) and when they electronically notified Lenovo, they issued a "return to sender" command instead of trying to deliver the next day or returning it to the UPS warehouse where I could pick it up.

Lenovo customer service was completely worthless. They would not escalate it beyond the India call center, and said we would have to wait another 4-6 weeks for it to be returned to the factory, processed, and re-shipped back to me. I was absolutely livid - after several days I finally got high enough in the supervisory chain to get them to cancel the order and return my money. The same laptop went on sale at Fry's for $100 less the next week and while I did NOT want to deal with them again, my son had his heart set on that exact model after he had done weeks of research so I got it for him.

I wonder if they bought a new yacht with the money they made off of this scam?

I seem to recall running into this issue many years ago with a Thinkpad T40 or T41. It was provided by my employer but as there was no WiFi on campus it didn't have a wifi card. I figured I'd add my own since I'd be traveling with it. Come to find out the card had to be IBM/Lenovo branded for it to work. This is probably more common than you think although I haven't had much other experience.

I believe if you keep telling the india call center you cant understand them they move you to some state side callcenter with like 4 people in it.

The original Lenovo Yoga was hands down the best multi-function tablet/laptop to have existed.

That said: OP, sounds like you were trying to get away with something by not simply ordering the device and shipping it directly to you, but rather had someone bring it overseas to you. Furthermore, why didn't you have this individual check the specs and condition of the system prior to trekking their happy ass to wherever the hell it is that you live.

For shame, OP.
