Lenovo Thinkpad T470 - Is this a good price and configuration

I am looking to buy a Thinkpad laptop for home office and mobile office use, i.e. I am an independent contractor in financial services and was happy with a Thinkpad T-Series laptop several years ago.

I was referred to a current Thinkpad sale that ends tonight, on the Lenovo site, in the U.S, I am in the U.S, for a Thinkpad T-470 with the following specs:

Total price - US $940, I presume tax is extra.

I am wondering whether I should:

a) Change the battery - to a ThinkPad Battery 6 cell Li-Ion (72Wh) Cylindrical Rear

and

b) Do I need the touchscreen or should I just get the 1920*1080 without a touchscreen? I do not really use the touchscreen in my day to day computing so far.

1. upgrade the battery
2. dont bother with the touchscreen, unless you're doing a lot of presentations or you're positive you have no fingerprints to leave smudges on the screen
3. Immediately update the wifi driver on it (if not anything else)

I'd grab a Black Friday deal on an SSD and swap that spinning disk out if you can swing it.

Yeah, that doesn't seem like that great of a deal. I guess the touch aspect is considered valuable.

I think I have a SSD with me at home so I am not wanting to configure the ThinkPad to include an SSD and pay extra.

But if you know of any SSD Black Friday deals let me know and I can get another one.

So for that price...$950...would you opt for another brand/etc

What I really like about Think Pads is the trackball - the red cursor in the middle of the laptop. I like to use that as a mouse pointer.

That red thing in the middle of the keyboard is called an Accupoint. Most Lenovo Thinkpads and some Dell Latitude's have them.

I would search around a bit more, $940 for that laptop is way too much for what you are getting.
