I had one all spec'ed out. I was all excited till I saw the keyboard layout in person. It looks like ass! Now I am wondering if I should just save some $ and got with a loaded T42p or T43p.

What do you all think?

What's so bad about it? Does the Windows key really make that much of a difference?

Other than a bit of cramping due to the Winkey, what's so bad about it.....

If you're buying a high end laptop now, doesn't make sense to me to buy single core....

All the latest lenovo laptops have the windows key. The only one's I've seen without them are the x41s, the z60m I have sitting here has one.

Have you felt one? 'Cuz I have a T60 15" in front of me here and the keyboard is bliss, as usual. I might even be able to get used to the Start key on this one, I never did take to it on either of the Z-series.

If you don't like it, don't buy it.

I'm not a big fan of 1985 design and RGB colors (they need to update the Thinkpad logo), but I don't really how it's better or worse than my X20 from 4 years ago..

I am a fan of it, just not the VGA out. good to hear the keyboard's all it should be, tactile-wise. Still very happy with my current lappy.

Lenovo FCKED Thinkpad enthusiasts big time, I saw one of the new Thinkpads at an office-depot it looked like sht to be honest, my R50e looked better than it did !
If I am to ever out of necessity to upgrade to a T60 I will need to do the following :

Paint the super annoying silver buttons as black, restore the mouse buttons to the original stripe colors, which will be very tricky to do BTW, and etch the window logo out and assign it in Linux as another CTRL key. Thank you lenovo ?

All that fckn hassle.

Yes I am a Thinkpad user and that's how I liked my Thinkpads for the past years and it's not easy to accept what they have done to them :|

What's next ? "The Trackpoint is not that popular let's remove it ." !

Well, one of the top requests from customers to IBM even before Lenovo bought the PC division was "where's our Windows key?".

These widescreens are an IBM design and were going to have the windows key Lenovo or not.

Appealing to a broad customer base that generates more profit is more important than catering to the demands of a small, select highly esoteric few.

Yep. And seriously I don't know how the simple color & button changes can piss so many people off. Its just a little color and a different button shape, not THAT big of a deal.

that really isn't, I agree.
But I've been toying with the idea of replacing my wrist-rest portion of the laptop with a version which wouldn't have the touchpad. I guess that shows my bias to having trackpoint only (and my BT mouse, for serious apps). I am very familiar with using windows-key shortcuts, but have learned to work around them at home, and with them at work. IBM does have yet another Service program which could assign the windows key to any key you like on the standard keyboard, though.

Agreed: function over cool red line.

Also, since you have that new Acer 8204 on hand, how does the T60 compare? I have a T43, with which I'm quite happy, but I do wish the video and screen were better. They are fine, but a little more power would have been nice. Still, I've thought about moving up to the Acer. I thought I would use some of IBM's business features in law school, and I really don't.

Oh, how much of an improvement is the Flexview screen over the 14"?

I actually don't have the 8204 here, our Editor in Chief has it. I'll ask him what he thinks, as he also has a T60 in our labs for video production.

Flexview is a fair bit brighter and has MUCH better viewing angle over the 14". But the 14" TP's generally just feel so much lighter and well balanced. You wouldn't think an inch makes a huge difference, but just carrying the two and feeling the difference, it is astounding. I don't mind my 15" T42 or the 15" T60, but the 14" T43 I reviewed was just so much more balanced...
