Lenovo X120e vs X130e?

Looks like the X130e is really out, and prices don't look much different from the X120e's I've been looking at. Any non obvious things I should be aware of?

X120e seems to come with either E240 or E350 AMD processor, and X130e the E300 or E450.

I've been pondering both models as well. Aesthetically The casing of the x130e was redesigned making it more "durable." The x130e also comes with an Intel Core i3 option.

I thought the x130e were designed for school kids and is much heavier with thicker padding.

Surely you'd avoid the E240, single core. E350 is 1.6Ghz vs E300 1.3GHz. There's almost no difference between E350 & E450.

And The Winner is X120e with E350... Unless you wanted to spend more on an X130e with Core i3 (what's the price differential?)

It's a decent low-power laptop if you don't have much demands. Great on power, and extremely portable.

Frys has the X120e E350 320Gb 2 gb 6 cell battery for $349, but my local store had both of the units they showed in stock on the floor as demo's, one with some signs of use, one looked new but the Win7 key was missing off the bottom. None of the local stores had one, but Monday they tell me they will have one for me from a farther store.

Thanks for the D430 tip.

My son's old laptop, that is well used, but suffering from required school installed security stuff needing a full wipe etc. is a D400, just no time to mess with it right now.

D430 looks very good, and $100 to $150 seems pretty common for a good working unit.

I will leave it to what turns up over the weekend, but we are very "easy" users, so buying the newer lighter etc. X120e is still tempting at the price.

I have 2 laptops.

D-430, with a 40GB drive and 2Gb, Windows 7 Home Premium. It's my 'travel' laptop, really thin & light.The screen is great, 1280 x 800 - 12.1". The hard drive, a 'zif' drive, is the tricky thing. You need to be careful getting one if you acquire a D-430 lacking a hard drive.

D-630, T-7700 Core 2 Duo, 250gb & 4GB , Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. 1440 x 900 display. Who needs a desktop?

Both cost less than $400 total, AFTER upgrades. Not counting cost of Windows 7. Linux works great on both, so...

My point is - Why spend huge sums on stuff that you won't even know has faster specifications (on paper) when you're actually using it.

Do you really only use a laptop to watch TV???

1366 x 768 is very annoying, as is 16:9 aspect ratio for desktop displays

Not "to watch tv", while watching TV, when I am too lazy to unrecline or uncouch and start PC etc but want to type something up, or read email, check imdb. It will likely only be used to watch media during trips, but hard to say for sure.

Most immediate use, I have a $600 USB OBDII diagnostic system I am unable to use without a laptop, and I want to use it this week.

Thanks for the info about the D-430. I really like the idea of a small laptop with 1280x800 screen being under $200! I still play some Dos games and ports (natively 320x200) and they would scale up perfectly to 4x with this - whereas with 1366x768 they would have to compromise to a wonky 3x 960x600 with large vertical/horizonal black borders or odd scaling. From reading user comments, the only issue I think may bother me is that some people say the bottom can get quite hot... I guess I can just put a usb laptop fan under it though. A nice small 1280x800 laptop... Hooray!

I do find the D430 appealing, but it was introduced in 2008, so units 4 years old are going to be out there. I still have my D400, so age doesn't bother me that much, but it will never run newer than W98, and I don't know if I would want newer than XP on the D430. Some are going to have Vista on them, and I would not touch Vista period.

Looks like the D430 had 1GB on board memory, and slot for one more dimm, maybe total of 3 GB, not sure. Heat issues are commonly reported as well as associated too small too noisy fan that turns on at 60C and never goes off.

Price and availability will decide for me, I'm not waiting past Monday, so if Fry's gets mine in stock locally I may just do the X120e for $349, but I think my limit on the D430 is $150 for a very nice condition complete one. If I had more time I bet one would turn up in a month or less for closer to $100 and still be in decent shape.

Wow, good thing I did some more research. Turns out the older Dell D series laptops have known power issues with my USB OBDII scanner, so much for saving a few bucks. Long run guessing its a good thing to get the X120e and bypass any problems.

Older Dell or HP Laptops are a great buy. Issues like "USB OBDII scanner" don't affect most people.

It's all about how much disposable income you have for Toys.

Some people consider the latest & greatest TV-like accessory an indispensable part of their life

Others prefer to lie on couch with a good book (You know, the things printed on paper.)

By the way, when's the last time you curled up on the couch with your scanner?

U7600 used to work fine for watchign videos. But... the tech requirements for flash and silverlight have been steadily rising. My 1.3GHz CULV core 2 has intermittent choppiness playing netflix now. It never used to ahve any problem. It is retarded as all get out but I expect this trend to continue until it is not playable at all. I have the same issue with a sempron 3000 machine.

So far, no regrets for paying more and getting new and new tech.

I dropped by Fry's today, and it took some digging, but they found my new in the box X120e transferred from San Marcos, and I was out the door for $382 total with tax and Calif disposal fee.

Box I received was the box Lenovo shipped it to Fry's from China in, still had the shipping label.

I like the X120e, my big XL hands type ok on it, screen worked fine for video and surfing.

Hate Win7 home Premium, no network backup, other little bits of annoying for no good reason. Doubt if I will hate it enough to pay for full 7, but its annoying. I think Lenovo includes a network backup of its own, or I will find one. If you have the option, skip the home version.

Slightly warm when used directly on legs, but not that bad, still wife wants a thing for under it.
