Getting ready to buy a 12" or 13" laptop this week, i been looking at these two models. The Lenovo seems like its built like a tank whereas the HP is more flimsy and a lot cheaper. Which one to get?

I have an (earlier version) dm1z w/ E-350 processor. It's a wonderful little netbook, plays most games albeit at super low settings and poor fps, and does everything I need it to do.

That said, I'd trade it in an instant for an X130e. The ruggedized design of the thinkpad would make it effectively more portable, as the dm1z feels very scratchable and brittle. I'm also not a huge fan of HP's driver support, while I've heard nothing but good things about lenovo.

The FN/Ctrl key location on the lenovo is very wrong unless you're missing half your pinky.

x130e without hesitation, I love my x120e even though it's pathetically weak in terms of CPU power (3.8 on WEI). That was to be expected though and the APU does do its job very well (scores 5.6 in WEI for gaming graphics).

They say it will "do everything", but that's a little misleading and depends heavily on your expectations. Don't expect it to run like your desktop or even *anywhere* remotely near a full fledged laptop (example, an i3 or i5 laptop) -- even with lots of RAM and SSD. The APU just doesn't have the processing power to give you a FAST experience. Firefox lags pretty badly during basic usage. So yes it will "do" it, but not very smoothly.

And about it being able to play back video... Again, it will do it - but forget about HD Netflix as they don't have hardware acceleration in Silverlight it seems.

Otherwise yep, it works like a charm and the battery life is really good too.

another option, unless you specifically want the APU, is on the x130e is to take the intel option and downgrade the processor. $429 for the Celeron 867 vs $589 for the i3-2367M

Intel GMA HD Gfx, Intel Cerelon 867 ULV Processor (1.3GHz, 2MB L3)
4 GB DDR3 - 1333MHz (1 DIMM)
320 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
6 cell Li-Ion Battery - 35+
Country Pack North America with Line cord & 65W AC adapter

Wouldn't the Celeron processor be slow? And would i be able to drop a core i5 in there later, assuming it will fit the slot.

Lenovo.

I've had terrible experiences with HP Laptops (3 to be exact)

Price seems kinda high for a E-450 (Sub $600?)

Saw the X130e in person, hated the keyboard, screen, battery and audio. No idea why everyone is raving about Lenovo, Never again.

Of the two, x130e, get an SSD in either one of them asap. I'm not even kidding. I was given a Windows tablet at work and couldn't get over how slow it was to use. Thought it was the lack of processing power but after upgrading it to 4GB of memory (was using 1GB) and an old Vertex 2 (was using a 500GB 5400RPM drive like those tablets) the difference was night and day. It will make your experience with either tablet far more enjoyable.
