What happened to him? I remember him on the ScreenSavers and then he was in a smaller section of the show and then he was off the show completely.

Is that legit? I don't have cable, so I don't watch the shows. =/

It seems mostly legit. He hasn't updated any of his websites in a while... I thought he just took a vacation or something.

He has stopped taping Call For Help here in Toronto. They are moving the production to Vancouver and renaming the show to something else.

As for his gaming abilities, I would have to agree with the second poster. Stupid idiot still believes any Nintendo console is still for kids.

Wow... that "news" post was so great... I love the amazing proof of someone's "friend" saying he joined their guild and them speculating that he "may become addicted." What a waste of my time.

Who said someone's opinion being equivalent to yours makes them a good gamer?

I doubt its him. Probebly someone using his name. He has said on some of his podcasts that people are always doing this. They make myspace pages and claim to be him.. or second life identities.

Leo does a series of podcasts on a variety of subjects and with a variety of hosts (Steve Gibson, Dick Debartolo). They are quite interesting and before you start calling him a tool you might be interrested in listening to them. They are free:

 Tool? Leo has been around forever, he's the king geek of geeks - He would pretty much run techspeak circles around most of us here.

He's the king of people that think they're geeks because read PC Magazine, but I've seen him make enough stupid comments on TechTV that I take anything he says with a grain of salt.

Yeah, maybe he's not the king of geeks but, he sure has turned a lot of people on to the world of computers. After watching his show for a while, I thought about building my own.

As a matter of fact, it was on his show that I first saw Anand and that's what brought me to this site. After coming here and joining up, I learned enough to build my first PC.

I also turned my several of my friends on to the show and they started building their own PC's.

Leo LaPorte opened up the world of computers to a lot of people who would otherwise be too intimidated to take the step.

QFT. I was randomly looking through podcasts and looked at some of his... the people he had working around him were definitely far more knowledgeable than he was. That said, he has the ability to communicate to multiple audiences and that's not exactly the easiest thing.

I don't disagree, I really liked the style with which he presented everything and it is possible that part of the problem was that he was trying to dumb things down or translate for those who don't know all of the acronyms and jargon off the top of their head but even if that's true he got the details wrong too often for my comfort.

Actually, all Laporte does now on his radio show(s) is pimp Apple products. Guy even had 3 Apple podcasts until he relented to a poll and finally started a show about Windows. Dude must be addicted to the kool-aid as he cannot finish one segment of his regular radio show without mentioning them. I guess if you worship Steve Jobs, then he is the greatest on-air personality ever. If you no interest in Apple, then he just sounds like an annoying infomercial.

exactly why i think he's a tool. he than just flaps his arms around like a girl in his hawaiian shirts and his show is pretty much useless.

Okay, in retrospect the 'king geek' comment was not really accurate and I also don't take his word as gospel. I do agree however, as pointed out later in these posts that he does have have that unique quality which so many of us (present company not included ofcourse) geeks lack and that is 'social personality'.

He does have that ability to 'bridge' technical concepts to the 'layman'. I use to think he was always pimpin 'Apple' products too, but do a search on 'TWIT' and start listening to his podcasts for about a month and you'll get the big picture.
