Read the book... Yes they did.
We are talking about the movie.
Are you stupid or something? OF COURSE THEY'RE NOT GONNA MAKE A MOVIE SHOWING A GROWN MAN HAVING SEX WITH A 11 YRS OLD. Why the fcuk do you think that the little biotch keeps walking around and said that "He's not my father, he's my LOVER" and got their asses tossed out of that apartment?

Someone asked if they "did have sex".
The answer is no. They did not. Watch the movie. Pay attention.
Her reasoning for the lover comments could be easily explained as the psychological phenomenon of Leon being a father figure to her, etc.
The book may be a different story, as I have not read it. The movie is a different matter.

there are some things in movies that are not explicitly shown.

Remember the scene when they woke up on a bed together and she looked at him REALLY funny? and there after got the boot out of the apartment? (by making the LOVER comment?). If they showed any more than that, the movie would've never made it out of the studio. I do pay attention when watching movie, I haven't seen this movie for over 3 years now, and still remember. So for the stupid fcuk that jumped the "face value" band wagon, you got your shiets ass backward.
by the way...they got evicted before jean reno slept in the bed. he only slept in the bed in the place place they last stayed at, and its after the scene where he rescues her from the police station. here are the chapter and times according to the uncut international region 1 version...

scene where they get evicted because of their 'im his lover' comment: chapter 16 @ 1hr 03min 34sec
scene when he firsts sleeps in the bed: chapter 24 @ 1hr 42min 30 sec

edit: not starting or jumping into the war here, just stating the facts

i enjoy the extra minutes put back in for the internation edition. the scenes show stuff like the closer bond between Mathilda and Leon, and the reason why Leon left Italy. also, Mathilda does a mock hit on a coke dealer. its 24 additional minutes, so, in that period of time, they fit a lot more into the movie to close plot holes and story gaps up. i dont know if most rental places carry the unrated version, but if you happen to come across it, i would definetly recommend it. i paid $25 for the original uncut international edition (they have a superbit version now), and i consider it worth every penny.

I've always wondered what drug Gary Olman's character was doing. I've done a drug or three in my misguided youth, and I never came across one that affected me like that. It was some kind of capsule, and he would put it in his mouth, look straight up, crack it open with his teeth, and freak out for a few seconds (almost looked like he was having an orgasm). Any idea what it was supposed to be, or was it just something made up for the movie? Maybe it explains it in the book.

I saw it on HBO years ago, but I must have seen the full version because I remember some of
those extra scenes as you describe.

And despite what cr4zymofo said, those scenes did not require them having had sex to work;
in fact (IMO) they had more impact if you thought they didn't have sex.

What I liked about the story was how Matilda was trying to act "grown up" to impress Leon
because he was the only "adult" who acted like he cared about her.

Leon was trying to deal with his own maturity issues in dealing with grown women, and
seemed (to me) obviously disturbed by the attraction and respect he was gaining for
Matilda's ability to deal with living with a "cleaner".

Anyway, as soon as that movie had ended, I was thinking how cool it would be if Ms. Portman
could come back years later (after growing up and graduating from college, say) and have to
pick up "da business" in order to fulfill some debts Leon had left behind.

I see Luc Besson as one of the few directors that could pull it off too:
(He was also behind La Femme Nikita, and The Fifth Element).

And some other cool lines from the film (paraphrased):

Matilda: You're a Hitman!?
Leon: (slightly embarrased) ...Yeah.
Matilda: ... Cool!

Matilda: Like a Virgin...

i always thought to myself, it would be neat to see Mathilda as a cleaner and grown up picking up where Leon left off. but the movie ended on such an emotional impact, and the way the whole movie was constructed, id hate to see that change with a 'bam-bam blockbuster a la michael bay'-kind of movie. so, i would like to see it left as is and always leave it as a pipe-dream. kind of how i loved the original matrix, then the subsequent sequels made me look ill now towards the original because i now know how the series ends, and because i hate how it ends, i cant look at the first movie the same way i used to.

I second that.

Gary Oldman was awesome in this movie.

And the final fight scene was wicked.

yes, it was her. it was her first ever movie, and she was 12 years old when they casted her for the part of Mathilda.

also, yes, the movie is in english. the reason it was called the international edition is because the movie was re-released in 1996 in france with 24 minutes of scenes cut out of the american version because of bad reviews from test audiences added back in. man, i wonder where the conducted this test screening, because those people wrongly judged the scenes. perhaps it was because with those scenes in there, the movie runs over 2 hours, and they wanted a faster-paced movie.
