I've always been a fan. Too many people tried to type cast him for Titanic, becoming the teenie-boppie heart-throb of the year. But the fact is that he's always picked solid roles from Basketball Diaries and What's Eating Gilbert Grape to Gangs of New York, Catch Me if You Can, The Departed, etc...

I like him the same way I like Brad Pitt and Tom Hanks. They're all great actors, and all tend to pick very solid roles in very good movies.

I never really liked him until I saw 'Catch Me if You Can'. I thought he was quite good in that movie. I haven't seen 'Blood Diamond' yet though. I do plan on checking it out as well as the other Oscar nominated movies.

I've loved him since What's Eating Gilbert Grape. IMO, he should have won for his performance then - still the best portrayal of a mentally handicapped person that I've seen in a movie.

Im kinda disappointed too that he didnt win best actor for either The Departed or Blood Diamond. He was awesome in both. I think he was better in Blood Diamond though.

I gotta check out The Last King of Scotland so see why Forest Whittaker won both golden globe and the oscar

Forest Whittaker is an astounding actor who is long overdue. I've never seen a bad performance from him.

While I have respect for Leo and know he is trying very successfully to dump the pretty boy image and be a serious actor, he does not hold a candle to Forest. At least, not yet.

Well getting called out for how talented you are by someone who just won Best Picture doesn't hurt. I love Leo in a lot of his movies but as I said in another thread Whitaker was a LOCK with his performance this year, Leo will have other chances I'm sure and he's young enough to cash in one of these days.

IMHO, DiCaprio has long been one of the most underrated actors of our time. His versatility is quite astonishing. However most people, (men mostly) couldn't get past Titanic, to see him for his true talent.

He was great in Catch Me If You Can, Departed, Blood Diamond, Gangs of New York, and the Aviator.

Afterall, he couldn't remain as Luke on Growing Pains forever...

I concur. I was always hesitant to like him because of his pretty-boy image (stemming from Titanic), but I realized I've enjoyed his acting in every movie I've seen him in.

My post would have largely been ignored, but you made the hilarious mistake to get all up in a dander about it When someone makes fun of you on OT, your best bet is to either make a joke back or just ignore it. Anyway, I can't think of any movie he has been in that I had to turn off due to being bad. Even Man in the Iron Mask and The Beach were okay.
