let down by 600m centrino

I benchmarked mine using pcmark2002 and sisoft sandra 2003 to come up with poor results. I bought the Centrino laptop thinking that it would eventually phase out P4s but I may have been wrong looking back. I'm just disappointed since I paid more for something I thought would've made as adequate of a desktop replacement as the P4-Ms would as well as mobility(yay, two slices of cake). But unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the case. My results are posted on the thread with the guy who's asking about getting a centrino laptop. Thanks.

What drivers are you using. I've noticed a significant improvement on my 600m after using non-dell drivers.

I couldn't see your multimedia test, it said page not found.
I'm pretty sure we have the same system. Here are a few of my specs 600m, 384mb Ram, 30GB HDD, 64 M9

Do you think the centrinos are more of a mobile laptop rather than a desktop replacement laptop.. if you kinda know what i mean....

That's what it seems to be for centrinos, a laptop that is more mobile than the big powerhouse laptops, but it's really for someone who needs to focus more on weight and battery life than power and capabilities of the laptop...

Atleast that's how I see it

If you want a desktop replacement get a p4 based notebook. They are still the fastest performing machines out there. I have a 1.3ghz pentium-m, in fact also a 600m, and it is great. It is a little slow on battery power, but it's the first laptop that I've had that I can get well over 3 hours of battery life on. If I'm not using the wireless networking, I turn down the brightness on the screen all the way and make sure it's runnign at 600mhz I can probably get 4.5-5 hours.

What non-Dell drivers are you using? I'd be very interested in finding the means to faster performance. Also I've been using the latest Dell drivers and the latest Windows XP Pro updates. I also noticed that I get better results when setting my power mode to "max performance" as opposed to "always on". But still, my memory bandwidth test seems to give me around 1884 Mbps for both integer and float point as well as poor cpu benchmark results. And battery life isn't all that's cracked up to be. I can barely get 3 hours while using the "max battery" power scheme. Thanks.

by the way, here's the fixed link for the multimedia benchmark

What were you doing on the 600m when you only got 3 hour of battery life? Just curious..I'm planning on getting a 600m.

Thanks

i was downloading files off of e-mule while using mirc while having a skin manager open. I might've also had an ftp client open as well. i also had a number of items in my systray. I don't know if that should really make a difference, plus i wasn't really timing how long it took for discharge while doing so. all i remember was that it drained very quickly from the getgo: as soon as i was about to switch power themes from max performance to max battery, a minute or two after the computer was on, the battery was already at 95%. let me know if there's a more objective way of finding out how much time i can get out of this thing.
