My system:
ASUS p3v4x
CPU=P3 650E
256 meg 133 ECC CL3 memory
7-18gig UW3 HDs
Adaptec 2940UW SCSI
ASUS v6800 Deluxe Geforce DDR vid card
Win98SE
Directx 7.0a
All the latest drivers
AGP is running at 4x and sidebanding is on

When I run 3dmark2000 with all the settings at the highest possible setting I het a score of around 3500 points. If I run at 16 bit color I get around 4000 points. Are these good marks? I am using the 3.75 release of the ASUS vid drivers and have all the latest VIA drivers and stuff installed. Thanks guys. Also, if you have any recommendations as what needs to be tweaked or updated I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks again.

On my system listed in my sig, I get 5400. Try upgrading your video drivers to the latest nVidia reference drivers. That might help.

Oyeve, have to notice that Fireball has a Geforce 2 GTS with 64MB of vid ram. Geforce 2 cards normally give P3 class or Athlon class systems beyond 7000 on 3dmark2000. For the same 2 systems, Geforce2 will give approximately 1000 points higher than the regular Geforce. From the look of your system, your score is about right. Not great but not bad neither. Try overclocking the core of the Asus to around 130-135 (if you don't have good cooling), you should see a greath difference in score. Keep on increasing the core and the memory frquency until you start seeing red flashing blots (core getting too hot) or little screen tears (white tears running horizontally indicating the memory is being taxed beyond its capacity).
I have a GOrb on my Leadtek Geforce DDR ver.B and it is running at 162 cpu core/345 memory. At 1024x768 16bit on an Athlon 750 overclocked to 1018, I get a score of 6080 for 3dmark 2000.

This is a bit unrelated, but SDR GeForces don't seem to go above 4000..4500 3dmarks on any system listed at MadOnion.com (and my Tbird 800 gives ~4500). Celeron w/ GeForce gets ~3000, as does a P3-800 with a Voodoo3. This is proof that video card matters a lot more than CPU in this benchmark.

Those were 1024x768/16bit, default benchmark results BTW.

Using MadOnion's compare for 3DMark 200 results - all results at 1024*768*16, all GeForce DDR, all PIII:

666 MHz 5418

666 MHz 4985

650 MHz 4922

666 MHz 4922

650 MHz 4875

650 MHz 4816

650 MHz 4709

650 MHz 4632

650 MHz 4567

650 MHz 4535

650 MHz 4523

650 MHz 4446

666 MHz 4423

666 MHz 4380

666 MHz 4365

650 MHz 4358

666 MHz 3935

666 MHz 1638

Looks like you may be able to improve your score by 400 or 500 points. Lilkely tweaks to your p3v4x memory settings and overclocking your video card. I assume you have all the latest VIA GART drivers. I have the same card and run it at 125/325 (with Asus tweak utility) with no noticeable temperature increase. I am using Asus 5.22e drivers for Win98 and 3.84e for WIN2K. Both seem fine. The other thing to consider is whether increased performance in 3DMark 2000 will show up in real gaming or other apps. Good luck.

I havent tried over clocking anything (because all my games play great so I figured why bother) But I did notice that when I use beta or reference drivers I can only get agp2x but yield better results in 3dmark2000 than if I use ASUS drivers with agp4x working. I currently use 522dre drivers and yield btw 3700-4000 without over clocking and at 1024x768x32. I think these are pretty good. I have overclock the p3 650 to 917mhz. I will try running the benchmark again. I'd rather try overclocking the chip rather than overclocking the video card because the chip cpu is cheaper than the card! thanks guys.

Wohoo, I got 4771 3dmarks when I clocked my V6600 Deluxe up to 140mhz core / 200mhz memory. This is more than 300 points higher than any other GeForce SDR system (chart goes up to P3/866 and Athlon 900mhz class CPUs) in MadOnion's database. Card seems to be rock-solid on this system (forementioned MSI K7Tpro + Athlon 800) when clocked that high. BTW, memory on this card is 5ns SGRAM, so this is really not memory overclocking - I'm just running at specs now

P3-600E @ 803MHz
ASUS P3V4X (tweaked out max.)
AGP 4x / SBA enabled / FW disabled (it slows it down)
ASUS V6800 Deluxe @ default clock
Leaked Detonator 5.30
Windows 98SE
DirectX 7.0a

5050 3DMarks @ 1024x768x16-bit (which is the default settings when you install 3Dmark2000 and run it for the first time)

A side question: When dealing with DDR GeForce cards, should you concentrating on OCing the memory or the core?

LocutusX,
In overclocking my Leadtek DDR ver.B card, I have found that I get a bigger performance boost (indicated by 3DMark) when I overclock the core. Increasing the memory also increases performance but less. For instance, with an overclocked Athlon 1018Mhz, at 160/345, my score would be around 6057. Increasing to 161/345 gives me around 6062. Increasing to 160/346 gives me around 6059.
