No winner actually.

You have to compare it with the build quality of the DS, which is amazing. YES their first batch of DS's had a hinge problem, but Nintendo took care of your DS on the house. Now, about 1.5 yeas have gone by and no probs. As for Sony, this is like it's 3rd year with the PSP, and still BS like this happens? Not cool.

DS>PSP.

I know. Did you hear about my friend's DS? His touch screen stopped responding. Nintendo DS build quality sucks.

I've had my psp for 8 months now. Even dropped it a few times. No black lines running through my screen. Get it fixed or replaced under warranty.

And the DS is crap. It's the handheld people who are too cheap to buy a PSP buy. PSP blows it outta the water with games, features, multimedia, ruggedness. Do yourself a favor and sell the DS and get a PSP.

I like the PSP (I have two of them) but my major complaint is battery life! It sucks!!!
I know I can buy an extended replacement battery, but I just play my GBA when I get bored. I'll be selling the PSP's soon!

Grab your expletive receipt. Get on your expletive bike. Take the expletive thing back to the store. Get an expletive new one, and stop crying like an expletive baby...

Sorta the same thing with our Toyota. Apparently if you are Asian you violate the ten commandments if you badmouth Toyota. Everytime our Camry has some retarded issues that need attention and we tell our friends and relatives they all look at us and spew out the whole how Toyota is infalliable BS.

they may well have a higher %. BUT again any electronic item can fail at any time. he is going off on Sony for this when EVERY manufacter has this problem.

I'd like to see a source of some data that says sony has a higher percent defect rate than other companies. There may be one thing they make, sure, but the entire corporation? If i see credible numbers I'll buy into it. Have owned alot of sony stuff in my day, as have people I know, and from my personal experience, which differs from anyone else's, I'd say sony is a solid company. This kinda stuff seems to me another case of "I had a sony experience i didn't like, so all their stuff sucks" kinda crap, or worse, you like Xbox 360 so you slander on Sony whenever possible thus resulting in the downgrading view of the PS3.

According to Consumer Reports, Toyota has dropped from the number one spot in vehicle reliability to number five. I think they said Ford had taken the number one spot, which kind of blew me away. Ford will have to work to overcome their reputation, though. They were to cars what Sony is to home electronics (usually).

I own a PSP and a DS Lite both, and they both have their strong and weak points. I would have to say the DS has the overall edge on the PSP, though.

That's pretty much what you get for buying something made by the Evil Empire.

But, your product is brand new and still under warranty so...

1. Stop crying
2. Return it
3. Get a new one
4 ?
5 Profit

i don't see why ford can't overcome the reuptation. look at Hyundai. they used to be a joke. crappy cars, crappy reputation.

now the reputation while not perfect is a lot better. many people i know who are snobs about what cars they buy (used to only buy honda) even now are admiting they are not bad cars.

just going to take a lot of work for Ford and some Time.

oh and i have a DS and have played the PSP you are right. i give the DS a slight edge. though i am thinking of getting a PSP. just waiting for it to drop a little more.

After 3 PS2s with unrepairable DRE's, 2 Cameras (one with unknown mechanical failures and one that frequently corrupted memory), 2 Memory Sticks that had traces just randomly break and my parent's VIAO that needed more or less every part except the HDD replaced in less than a year, I'm willing to stand behind the statement that everything Sony makes is crap.

No thanks, Sony. I don't want your cheap shit.

Anecdotal evidence always prevails over reality! One person had some bad luck? Everything Sony makes is shit!

The logic is flawless. Wait -- nothing Sony my family has ever had has broken, or even come close, or done anything other than perform flawlessly. I gave a PS2 a five foot drop (while running, no less) and couldn't break it.

How will the universe hold up under the strain of conflicting anecdotal evidence?!

I like Sony products... after they've been repaired. I've still got a 15" Sony monitor that died ~6mos after I bought it, had it repaired under warranty and it's still going strong after ~10 years.

i have a sony boom box i got when i was 15. that was 18 years ago. it still works great! i have it in my garage so it has suffered 4+ years of the cold in the winter.

the only sony product i have had go bad was the orginal Playstation. it died after 3 years of use.

With the Focus now getting 35 MPG highway (I think that is what I last heard), combined with the lower price, once people find out they are now coming out ahead in reliability it should do wonders for Ford in that car category.

I just got a PSP recently. Local store had coupons for $10.00 off $50.00, $20.00 off $100.00, and $30.00 off $150.00+ in Home Electronics. I used the coupon to get one of the Daxter bundles. PSP slim, 1 GB memory stick, Daxter game, Family Guy UMD, all for $169.99, which is the price usually charged for the PSP slim by itself.

Just be careful with the door for the UMDs, it feels very flimsy.

Sorry, but for me...

personal experience >>>>>>>>>>>>> advice

Whether you chalk it up to "Bad luck" or a poor excuse for a manufacturer, they don't deserve my money after I drop a few grand on their products to help build landfills. Not even you trying to be a prick with your OH SO WITTY sarcasm is going to instantly make me have confidence in their shit, but be my guest and waste your money how you please. I'm not going to stop you.

Problem is, when a Sony product breaks and you google the symptoms or the error code, you usually find that it's a widespread problem. That was the case with my $300 Sony DVD player (C 13:00 error that was common across at least a half dozen models a few years back) and my wife's $1500 Vaio laptop (it works... but only if she puts pressure on the door to the memory compartment with her knee - common problem with that model). The Playstation and PS2 both had more than their share of failures. For years Sony has used their reputation for quality to sell poor quality products at premium prices. I used to buy a lot of Sony products, but now I only buy their video games/systems. When you're out $2000 from one company's products, you think twice about buying them again. Once bitten, twice shy and all that. Fortunately my wife's $800 Sony digicam was able to be fixed under warranty (also turned out to be a very common problem with the batteries not charging).

I do  my PSP though. I understand the OP's disappointment, but shit happens and at least it's still playable until you get a chance to return it.

Of course this being the console gaming forum and a discussion about defects, I have to mention Microsoft. The failure rate of the 360 is completely unacceptable. But at least they extended the warranty - twice - to 12 times the original length. I think the original warranty was unacceptably short, but at least they did the right thing. I still wouldn't buy one from any store other than Costco, and if I buy the Xbox 720 whenever it comes out, I'll probably buy that at Costco too. I don't buy any other MS hardware either, although my wife has some. I buy all Logitech mice and keyboards, and I don't buy MS's networking products either.
