I can't believe you have over 2000 expletiving posts, and you still come on with this crap.

My PSP is going on 2 years with nary a problem. It happens, get over it, be glad it didn't happen out of warranty. As it stands currently, you just need to take it back to the store with the receipt and exchange it.

OMG
is it no longer cool to bash Sony, because a couple months ago, a sony-hatin thread would have brought in all the sony-haters and there would be a mass sony-hating orgy.

but yea, be happy it broke within the first couple days, because you can take care of the problem real quick and have a good unit in no time. The PSP's are actually pretty well built and mine hasn't crapped out on my yet. Granted, it's less than a year old.

It's hard to bash Sony for my PSP and PS3 working great since Day One, when I've had to box up 3 XBox 360 corpses in the past 2 years, send them back for RMA, then chat with my UPS guy about how he's had 2 360s go belly up as well, then get a call from my dumb-as-bricks cousin who had his 360 die and he had no idea how to RMA it...

...I could go on with the dozen or so people on IRC that have related their dead 360 stories, but needless to say, Sony has a long way to go before I go down the bashing road when it comes to hardware reliability.

So my gf bought me a DS for Christmas and everything was nice and awesome when I turned it on. We play it for one day, the next morning she goes to turn it on to play and there's a expletiveing black line going across the top screen! It's like WTF is this shit!!! Not even expletiveing two days gone by and I get some stupid shit black line on the screen that won't go away? expletive Nintendo and their piece of shit products!!!!

Also there was a crack in the hinge, and then my DS exploded.

End rant....

EDIT: Also, I don't really mind Sony. My PS1 from close to launch still works. My PS2 a few months after launch still works. My PS3 from launch still works. Also, my PSP works, though I haven't had the thing for too long.

Microsoft on the other hand, well, you can guess.

As far as Nintendo goes, they are usually pretty reliable, but I have had a few problems. My launch DS lite came with two dead pixels, then the hinge crack expanded and broke the thing almost in half. Also, a GC controller broke once.

PRETTY SCARY

I bought a $400 Sony receiver, used it for about 8 years, then shipped it to my brother 3 years ago after I upgraded. It's still problem-free.

So is the 10-year-old Sony CD player in my home office.

So is my 1-year-old PS3, and 3-year-old PS2.

I've heard that you should avoid their lowest models for AV gear, but from my dueling anecdotal evidence I'd say the midrange offers good build quality.

the ps3 is the best built console, even with all the new tech in it...that kinda puts a big hole in your 'sony sucks' argument.

Exactly. It's posts like this (the OP) that make me wonder if I shouldn't look for a more 'grown up' forum.

Yep. Let me know when you find that forum, and I'll follow along with you.

Not really. One good product does not a bad reputation repair (voice of Yoda). However, it sounds like Sony has fallen from its lofty pedistal.

Making a better quality product NOW doesn't make up for the fact that they didn't previously. I mean, if they want to give me a discount on the PS3 as an apology for my PS2 issues I'd be interested, but your word alone doesn't give me reason to have faith in them in a company.

I still have a launch PS2, and as far as I know, it still works.
makes up the the one I opened on christmas day that didn't turn on. Found a PS2 that hadn't been picked up yet where they bought mine, and returned it. I had 1 disc read error in my PS2's lifetime.

are you saying Sony does not stand on the 'most reliable hardware' pedestal? If so, I agree, however, Sir Howard Stringer appears to be doing everything that is possible to slowly turn Sony around and get them to be recognized as a quality name and be affordable at the same time, something that in some of their markets, is completely opposite.

One of the ones I had a problem with was a launch day one, too.

Like I've said, I don't doubt that I might just have bad luck, but it's certainly no incentive for me to keep buying.

If you're consistent about this then you also can't own a 360 (RRoD, Windows ME, Clippy), wii (dying GPU), DS Lite (cracked hinges), and so on.

It's just Choose your own adventure books for you!

I've never had a problem with my Microsoft products or my Nintendo products. You fail to read previous posts where I've had many issues with many Sony products. The only thing "consistent" here is Sony products failing. You also must be reading things totally backwards, because as stated previously I don't take the opinions of others over my own experiences.

Never had a problem with MS products... ? Wow, I think you're the first. Even discounting their many software problems, the 360 is far and away the most problematic console. When a huge portion of them simply die for no reason, its a problem. The simple fact is, MS has more hardware problems than anyone else right now. Ignoring this fact, doesnt change it.

Well it's not going to make me get rid of a 360 that's been working fine and dandy since I got it.
