its nothing new

What is new is the amount of coverage. No more watch it on Sunday or miss it. Now we have a whole network dedicated to football, countless apps and websites, email and text alerts and forums like this and thousands of others.

I do think that the NFL hampering defensive players has had the opposite affect of what they wanted. Now the receivers and runners act like they are invincible. Why would a 5'9", 175 pound receiver lower his head when running full speed at 2 huge linebackers? Because he knows he feels like he is protected. Armendola was a perfect example of that.

The defense is not going to hit softer. If anything, they are going to hit harder to make up for not being able to hit where they normally would. Couple that with these receivers acting like they have a protective bubble and there is going to be players hurt badly.

id like to see the stats TBH. we have been in the "news everywhere" age for a while now and each year it seems there are more and more serious injuries

Damn.

Don't want to guess, but would assume it's the last play he makes in the NFL

Pagano's post game said it was a bloodbath.

I am guessing you are probably right... Wayne has been a stud, and he will be a hall of famer.... Sucks to see him go out on that note....

He is getting up there in age, and his speed isnt the same as what it use to be....

You would think you'd be able to go to google, type in "NFL ACL Injuries per year" and get a easy line chart back.

You can't.

Almost as if it's being removed.

Tin foil NFL conspiracy?

I think we're right now averaging about 2 ACL's per week. I brought this up I think in one of the preseason threads, regarding the uptick in ankle and knee injuries with the transition to FieldTurf - the players hate the shit. And yes, there has been some incomplete studies done over the last decade, but they've been pretty much buried and deemed incomplete and inconclusive.

He is 34. If he misses the rest of the season with surgery / rehab, even if he comes back he won't be the same. I think the Colts might offer him a retirement package soon.

A guy makes obscene gestures after his team blows out another team? Must have been a slow news day in 2009. And I am pretty sure 99% of fans of a team have stated something derogatory about their favorite team's rival; and chances are, it was much worse than a few flippings of the bird.

Let's just say that after what Adams did to Houston, there are a lot of people who do not like the man.

Yeah it was a big douchebag move by him. The city had already sank a whole bunch of money into the Astrodome and Adams was whining like a little girl to get the city to fund a new stadium.

The Oilers had a great fan base.

Now the Astrodome is collecting dust and hosting rats while the tax payers are still paying off the debt.

Once he announced the move, you saw how fast Houstonians dropped support. They couldn't give away tickets for the last Oilers season.

Sure, he was a dick for basically gutting the team because they couldn't even get to a Superbowl.

Plus, the Astrodome was pretty dated and crappy by the 90s. Adding extra seats didn't make up for anything. I mean, the design was piss poor. They had to invent Astroturf to stop it from raining in side...

After 2000, when the Astros left, it was a complete shithole. Not to mention, the location wasn't exactly the best. Having Astroworld (Six flags theme park) share it's parking lot and be right across the street, made it a center for youth gang violence.

They were both great, making some amazing throws last night. Luck could go down as one of the best ever, in time & with the right team/circumstances, which seems to be a big part of it.

Also I think there is less off season training these players do with themselves. There are great stretches and exercises a player can do to strengthen the knee ligament and tendons so it is much much harder to tear.

I remember players like Jerry Rice and such, even in the offseason they spent 5-6 hours a day minimum working out or practicing with themselves or a few others. An average off season day for him was:

Get up at 6am.
stretch
Run for 1.5-2 hours up a mountain
stretch
breakfast
"learn football"
play golf to relax
have lunch
practice catching the ball
stretch
weight lift
cooldown 1 hour jog
stretch
dinner around 6pm.

Players who put in the same amount of work when they are in the NFL as they should to get there, do not get injured as much or as often or as badly. With the less weeks of official practices between start of them to the first game, I think the entitlement mindset slightly is seeping into new players so slowly some are believing they do not have to work as hard in the offseason/get ready for the season.

And add in the horrible new turf, and players more often then not trying to knock a guy down instead of wrapping up and dragging them to the ground. Yes injuries have increased. It shouldn't be a surprise.

It's right next door to Reliant Stadium so they both have crappy locations.

As long as the NFL continues to roll in the dough I think over the 10-20 years the old school fixed dome stadiums will phased out with the possible exception of the Superdome & Ford Field.

Basically, if you have a dome that can handle a Superbowl, you're okay for a bit longer. Otherwise, you'd better start trying to get a new stadium.

It's right next door to Reliant Stadium so they both have crappy locations.

Yeah, but they tore down Astroworld around 2005 (I left Houston for like a year, and when I returned to visit it was gone). That helped the area a bit I think.
