Hell, I was here during the "FIRST" wounded monitor children incedent at McGlen Micro... They had 21" $1500 monitors for like $154. I was also here during the whole buy.com thing.

I was a member of AT as well..I just did not resign up immediately when they changed the board since they refused my yahoo.com account...then after a month I realized I could not stay away....

Value America was awesome...got a $250 Lexmark printer for like $70...got a 13.6 WD HDD for either $69 or $79...it was like getting it for 1/2 of retail...those Value dollars were awesome..wish I had used them more

Well our joined date is the same Oct 1999 and I don't remember you either! The Hot Deals forum was here before October of 1999.
About remembering each other , I guess our memories are equally faulty!

However, your assertion that the Hot Deals forum was here before Oct, 1999, while true, is besides the point. It was most definitely not here before the WMC fiasco. The change at Anandtech to Fusetalk predated the software crash of Oct. 1999, which unfortunately wiped out all previous membership records. It's interesting to see when on Oct. 9th, 1999, the old regulars re-upped -- mine wasn't until the late afternoon because of my late night hours in the field as an investigator -- kind of takes you back, you know?

Anyway, perusing subsequent posts here, I realized that I'd almost forgotten about AGN -- All Games Network -- where the trading community first took hold. We used to look down on Anandtech as a kiddie infested forum.

Lastly, a big shout out to Harvey, Russ, Red Dawn, Blade, et al, just a few of the legendary giants from our mist shrouded past.

HAHAHAHA.

Yeah, Value America was wonderful! Damn that was a long time ago. So long ago, we're now about to watch the Matrix sequel instead of wowing over the original.

aaaahhhhh....Back then it seemed like everyday was Christmas. The house was littered with drugstore.com boxes - I still have a bunch of the Philosophy shampoo/soap samples and I actually just grabbed a bandage out of the Drugstore.com firstaid kit. That was the Golden era for E-shopping w/ Buy.com, mercata, mobshop/accompany (My lil cousins still love Mario party) etc...
Here's to free $10/ $20 off coupons (no min purchase) & free shipping, the checks I collected with Alladvantage, Free money from Paypal, Ecount, my "long since closed" USAbancshares acct, and to the death of AMex Blues BVG (RIP since MAy 2002)

I remember it, doesn't seem far to profit from others mistakes, as we all have done it I'm sure.

Just as interesting are all those who are still here and contributing. As was mentioned, this board provides many members with outstanding tips and savings, plus years of experience that can be shared with other members. Is this a "Hot Deals" thread??? Just look at the members who have been here for years and are willing to share their contacts, experience, and lead more members here, to keep the forum going. How many members can pull up links to countless info sources and remembered threads that save everyone lots of time and grief. This forum and site has been one of my best finds ever.

Yes, I think this qualifies as a Hot Deal thread.

Ah yes, I have been here forever it seems. I didn't get the monitor but I did sheepishly get in on the suit and was surprised to actually get a check. I have done extremely well with these forums, both Hot Deals and FS/FT. Kudos to all.

Oh yes, I remember quite well the night I bought the Hitachi monitor brom buy.com. I had just driven back home from Arizona visiting my family for the holiday. It was an 8 1/2 hour drive, I was exhausted. Stoopid buy.com deal kept me up much later than I should have been. I did get a check eventually, but as i recall it was for practically nothing like .70 cents. Is my poor memory failing? Was it more? Did I get screwed twice by buy.com?! Those bastards!

Thank you to all the veterans who have contributed for so long here at AT.

Hehe, how about the refillable mastercard from giftcertificates.com when they gave you money to have one!
Got the 32mb mp3 player from emusic.

Still have that, the toshiba dvd player for like $80 from mobshop, the V770 ultra from VA, ACS-48 from VA, and vtech cordless phone from Onvia

ValueAmerica was the bomb. I can't believe that I never got ripped off by them. I mean if anyone had a reason to not honor their obligations it was them.

I am still waiting for the two Hitachi monitors that I ordered.

I should have added:

But I now want my 19" monitors to be LCD flat panel monitors. When buy.com offers 19" LCD flat panels for $168 each, I'll ...

A 19" CRT is not much to get excited about nowadays.

I did get my Buy.com class action settlement a long time ago, I think it was something like $50 which was spent on a buy.com purchase.

Good to see some of the fellow WMC again.

I still dont understand the whole WMC thing, but is sounds funny. I love Buy.com. They were great, then sucked, now i order all the time from them. $3 5port switch, $7 usb 802.11b adapter are the most recent. I havnt heard anything about cyberrebate.com!!!!! I got some great deals from them, till the last $1000 worth of crap. still looking on their site to see if there are any updates. I think the best deal i got was at dell, 50 10/100 eathernet cards for about $40 ebay is still full of them. what was 2 years ago even! geez.

Lets here the raging on cyberrebate!!!!!

Lifetime Best Deal Award goes to VALUE AMERICA.

Yeah, we got to pay, but only pay half price! I'm still using the $100 Kithchen Aid mixer. This mixer price doesn't drop that much since 2000, still goes for $150-200 around local stores. I also like accompany, my first PDA (Palm III) and digicam (Kodak DC 265?) were from them. A lot of my DVD collection were from Reel.com and Buy.com with their $10 off $10 and $20 off $20 with free shipping. I was a member of DVDtalk before I joined AT, I remember some members refused to buy the DVD if the final price was over $5 each.

I think the best deal of all time was the MS promo for Oregon and California... $400 shopping spree if you signed up with MSN, but Oregon and California had a special clause that you could cancel immediately without penalty.... That was a nice deal as well....

I was still in Montana during that time. Now that I'm in CA and there is no such deal and I have to pay sales tax for every purchase (Montana is one of the tax free state)

I say googlegear and newegg or the new buy.com's
I guess they'd rather pay big bucks and support a golf tour than pass along their savings to their customers any longer.
