Definitely down memory lane.
Bolle Sunglasses from Ashford.com for $25 ($75 off $100),
Many Value America deals at ½ off with free shipping - get DVD deals & a ping-pong table ,
Free 3M mouse pads from buycomp.com,
All the crimping tools and plugs needed to wire my entire house from Questlink ($13 after $200 off $200),
A couple of MS optical mice for $25 total back in May 2002,
Too many to remember from Accompany/Mobshop/Mercada (how about a $10 Talkabout... ),
2400VA UPS from compgeeks for $160 shipped & it exceeded UPS' weight limits ,
Three 56K external modems for $42 total from officemax,
Way too many Staples, OfficeDepot, OfficeMax deals including ones that they paid me a few bucks to take the stuff, and
More than enough CDRWs to last a lifetime including one of the Smart&Friendly variety (btw, S&F went out of business & the CDRW died - however I still use the included software )

And these were all the valid, real deals that could be had within the company's rules - some new players don't understand why members jump on "obvious mistakes". Heck, some of the "obvious mistakes" aren't half as good as the real deals.

Of course, my 20pks of Hard Drives from OnSale never did arrive (I think Underclocked got them all)

Earlier said thanks to the Anandtech guys. Thanks to all the members here who, not only find the deals, but share the tremendous knowledge and research done on the products we buy. Sigh. Certainly has been one hellua ride.

I remember the MCI $150 Amazon GC for signing up LD service.

I got the GC and they also gave me a $150 credit

I used that to get my Palm IIIxe for +$4.95 AR at the time.

hey, who remembers vitamins.com? i still am using some of their stuff today! i kept my 10 page credit bill with $0.01 charges as a souvenir too, hehehe.

No it didn't....believe me, the Hitachi deal was a good year or so before the coupon codes were being abused at Staples. I used to poke around Agn in those days.

Ahh yes, the $10. Accompany Motorola 2 way FRS radios when everyone else wanted $130 for them. What a deal!

In other musings, what was that 'saying' that a user misstyped in about slamming Staples that everyone started using?

Was it "Staples is suck"?

Heh, I joined late 2000, still got in on plenty of hot deals. Staples, OM, OD, Lechters/BBB/LnT 50% off, PS2's, Onvia, Mercata, and all the pet deals (free cat litter, free cat food). Used to get 5-7 packages a day, drove the UPS guy nuts. Still kicking myself over the Dell plasmas.

yes, the memories.

I only got in on the pretty good deals, none of the "free $500 worth of stuff from Staples" or VA deals. The Nomad from emusic was cool, onvia was very nice (got a free P3-600, but I told them and paid them back).

Now HD is too crowded or something, just doesn't feel the same.

Reading through this thread has been a great trip down memory lane - I lurked for a while before I joined.

One big deal I haven't seen mentioned was the absolute ass-crazy frenzy over those Wal-Mart Laptops (HP n5125). The way they would come in & out of stock was so tantalizing. I had no real need for a laptop at the time but when I logged onto AT one night and saw that someone had just posted "WAL-MART LAPTOPS IN STOCK NOW!!!!" I felt compelled to purchase one immediately. Ended up being a great little laptop that I just sold to my brother-in-law a few weeks ago (replaced by another amazing hot deal laptop of course from CC).

Yeah... the good old days (pre 4/22/2003) without the side ad. Anyway, it is still free so this forum itself is a hot deal

Hey everyone. I remember the good old days too! Remember when the board would crash and you lose all your posts. Man I wanted that monitor so bad.

Very sentimental to see all you Old ATers here(OATs? ). It means that we're all still lurking for hot deals even though we don't post much.

Because of this thread I picked up an old CD with many old posts. Including my first post (10/98, sniff), and carolyn's long "Small Claims Hearing Update" thread (sniff, sniff ,bwaaahh). That thread used to disappear quite often (hmmm).

I say that if it wasn't for Carolyn, none of us that didn't personally sue buycomp would have received that class action check. She did most of leg work, and for that she is my Anandtech Hero(ine). Not only because of the $50 check, but mainly because she stood up against the might corp. There are not many people like that in the world.

So my master shout goes to you "carolyn" wherever you are and whatever your new handle is.

And since I'm reading this old thread here goes shouts to some of the others current lurkers that helped out on the fight, jjm, blindman, pjs, mulder, pigseye and of course Harvey(but he is still very much around and kickin)

Thank you jhouston for bringing back some old memories. Maybe we should have a special buycomp day every year....
