Since I lowered my FSB to keep the freakin thing from throttling, I also adjsted mem timings to 2.5 3 3 7, and got a bit more..

Not to get OT, but do you have any extra voltage applied to the P4? If not, would it then be expected that the true P4 3.8 is going to throttle under this scenario just the same as your first run? Is this test that unusually hard on the cpu to warrant clock throttling in the few minutes it takes to run?

I've always liked my Intel setups, but if throttling is going to take over in the short amount of time it takes to run this test, that is somewhat sad. Would it also react in this manner if stability testing with Prime95?

I upped the voltage to get it to 3.8ghz. It is prime95 stable, but prime95 won't show the throttling either. I ran other benchmarks that seemed unusualy low as well, so thats why I started to expect the throttling. The only clue I had that it was going on at all was the benchmark scores, as it didn't slow anything down, including half life 2, enough for me to notice the differance. In any case, with an XP-120 and artic silver 5, I am definatly not happy with the temps. The throttling kicks in when the temp hits 70c, and stops as soon as it drops below 70c. I tried disabling the throttling in my BIOS, but it does it anyway.

I've been suspect of all P4 benchmarks from hardware sites for awile because of this throttleing.... Why? cause they test in open air envrioment, in cold office buildings which is unrepresentitive of most user...in a case..at home with a summer budget consious 80 degrees.. inside cases are hotter, peoples homes are hotter. P4 likes to thottle.

I'm confused also....

Lower numbers are better right ...?

Seems my numbers aren't to shabby for a 2400 and a 9700pro ?

Not to start a bash, but Intel should advertise the P4 3.8 as: "P4 up to 3.8ghz" or move along to the next core already. Overclocking and fighting temps because of overclocking is one thing, but if it cannot run at the rated speed under normal conditions or a silly little benchmark such as this is another. Worse in a way than the PVP thing going on in Video, since it affects all P4 users performing any cpu strenuous task, not just the one's using a particular feature.

Fealt good>>>off the soapbox now

lol .. I was going to rebuttle that post before you 'retracted'.

You should cut back on your caffine?
Maybe then, you can put a 'buffer' on what you think and what you post.

I'm comparing my numbers to some of these Dual P4 numbers that are running over 1g faster.
My numbers are just a couple marks off some scores.
That's why I'm asking.

It still doesnt make sense... I'm not using this bench.

Rarley do I. Politics never my fortee but I did'nt want to derail topic so like I said I retract.

Anyway back on topic.. your Tbred is an excellent processor with high intructions set per clock, much higher than p4 which relies on raw speed/mhz for it's computing power to match tbreds. This is normal. Some benches, like POVray which is all old school math, you need almost twice the mhz of p4 to match a Tbred/barton.

Thx for reminding me of the diffences in Intel to AMD.

I just thought I would be slammed with Dual Intel systems...

So, OGL is software and hardware driven.

Still trying to figure out if the OGL numbers are GPU numbers or CPU or BOTH

.. and how my r9700pro is utilizing OGL
(the OGL hardware number right ...?)

nah ,,, can't be ... cuz 68gtx upped his cpu and that number went up ...

this is strickly a CPU bench ... I got it ...

It's only proof that bandwidth means little for Cinebench. The 3.06GHz P4 beats the 3GHz P4c with only 40% of the bandwidth.

Those aren't dual P4, they're HT enabled P4s which can be used by Cinebench to achieve a ~18% gain in throughput.
