Folks, let's join together to get Mobshop to carry PS2! They take product suggestions and if they get enough for one product, they usually sell it! All you have to do is e-mail

Guys, be careful with the PS2....There have been many problems with that machine. I am a developer, and our comapny is holdong off from developing b/c there are so many internal problems. I cant go into details, but from what I have learned of the xbox there will be far more titles in the long run on that console.

Not to scare anyone off, but your money will be better spent upgrading your PC's vid card and/or processor.

Just be careful and know that there will soon be massive production delays with game titles, that is by far the most frustrating thing for an owner, and I guaruntee that this will be the case with the PS2...

sorry, I would just hate to see alot of frustrated people complaining about their machines all day long...

Actually i like the psx2. My neighbor bought one overseas and it's great. Another friend of mine who works at Crave Entertainment has a console at work and i love it. HATERS ARE SUCK!@

And I wont be getting one for a while. I don't trust its chances at success yet, plus there is only 1 or 2 launch games that I would even consider buying currently. Maybe if around the time when Metal Gear is released there are more good games than that one I'll pick it up...

The playstation 2 had some problems with the memory card. It would erase (the old-type only) if you left it in there and turned the power on/off.

According to PSM, it shouldn't affect us at all.

yes there have been problems. one main reason i am getting it is because it also plays back DVD's. (yes i know XBOX will as well).

but another main reason i am definately getting it is because, Metal Gear Solid 2 is coming out for it. that game will be the greatest. period

Now as to Deals, I remember Daily Radar saying if you ordered through their site with GameStop, that they would try to work out a deal or throw in something extra. But GameStop charges sales tax, whereas EBWorld doesn't..

Upon further reflection, considering there isn't much leeway for bonuses on $299, they might throw in a magazine subscription or something. They sell magazine subs for $12 all the time, and it'd be good for their advertisers... I'm getting 3 free mags in the mail I never even asked for...

well, people it is a DVD player. and current dvd players are sold for around $100-$400. but making only $10, that just plain sucks for them. Not too good for us also since a price lowering isnt expected.

$10 from the sale of PS2? HA!!! That is total bullsh*t. This reminds me of when car dealerships keep telling their customers that the posted dealer invoice is what they actually pay for the car (for those of you who don't know already, the dealer invoice is NOT what the dealer pays and is there to fool you. The dealer pays a LOT less than the listed blue-book invoice price). If a store sold a PS2 for only $10 above their cost, then not only will they not make a profit (remember kids, profit is net revenue MINUS net cost), they would be LOSING MONEY!! I don't know of a single retailer who is willing to lose money on a product for Sony, or for any other company for that matter. What will more than likely happen, however, is that Sony will sell the PS2 to retailers at around $249 or so, so there is a good $50 margin to play with. Hear me now, understand me later!

Rants? I don't think so...Just a different opinion then your own So Simpal....I'm a huge Playstation fan, but Let's face it, I haven't heard anything good yet. The DVD on it sucks, it won't run some of the old PSX games, and there are memory card issues on the deletion of drivers. Next time you open your mouth on how great the PSX2 is and how no one can tell you different, you had better think or else you'll be out $300.

Mobshop is the thing out of whack here... I chose 15 things at random from the PC area and without exception, I could get every single item cheaper somewhere else buyin one than I could there with 26 buyers. And I think I found like 4 things that had buyers, and those were people putting 'holds' for the lowest price. Not tryin to slam the place, it just seems prety obvious that there aren't any hot deals to be found there.

Demand for PS2 is so high right now that Sony will probably sell all their units at full price. I don't think they'll have any left over for volume discounting at MobShop.

Mobshop is suck.

Every now and then they have a nice deal, but for the most part their prices are totally suck. Their business model is valid, except that they aren't selling things in sufficient quantities to get true volume discounts. Wholesalers give the biggest discounts to companies buying tens of thousands of an item, not the few hundred that Mobshop usually puts up. TheBigZ is right, most everything at Mobshop is more expensive than other online retailers.

And as far as retailers only making $10 on the PS2, bear in mind that few people buy JUST the PS2, they get controllers, they get games, they get add-ons, etc. For brick-and-mortyr businesses, just having the PS2 on their shelves is a way to get consumers who are in a buying mood into their store.

KBToys knows that initial quantities are going to be constrained, so they can justify the higher price.

artemis67 is exactly right. Sony lost money on every Playstation 1 they sold, but made grip loads of cash from games and accessories.
I can't imagine that places like KBkids would be so stupid as to price it higher than everyone else. If they were smart, they'd take a loss of even more--sell it at the lowest price availible, and mak eup the loss on the games. After all, who would buy the console without any games? All they'd have to do is charge a buck extra or two per game and controller, mem card, and so on.
