The reason why they are only making $10 is cause it costs $200 for the Rambus memory and like $50 for the DVD rom, video, emotion chip and everything else. O.K. maybe not. I am glad X-box is using DDR. Anyway, I am going to email Mobo and ask them to carry the X-box since I am probably not gonna get the PS2.

Acutally, you're wrong. I worked in the industry for YEARS. Video Game consoles are loss leaders. You sell them very close to, or below cost in order to get people into the store to buy the games, which have a MUCH higher margin.

You can choose not to believe that if you want, but it's a very standard business practice.

SuperRob I know what you mean and in the past that's been true, but I think in this case the PSX2 is cutting corners left and right. This time I'm in agreeance with Johnnysnakes...The PSX2 is trying to pawn off some inferior equipment.

I don't know about the markup on the PSX2, but in the computer world, a 10% markup is rather common. I mean check the places that mark up more like Micro Center and the like. I mean I like Micro Center, a good place to get your hands on something, but the tiny mom and pop type places and surely the lowest priced stores on the net are only marking up 10% or so..

So the those saying BS to the 10%, be sure you know what you are talking about becuase obviously a lot of you have not a clue.

i heard a long time ago that the sony wouldent be making much off the sales of the ps2, they expected their money to come from commission (i suppose you can call it commission) they would get off the games that are made for the playstation 2. they want to make it as cheap as possible to people could buy them and that way more people will buy games. it would be insane to sell a console for much more than 300 bucks, i wouldent pay if it was 400 bucks (im not paying anyway, all i need is my pc and a copy of diablo 2)

Sorry guys but I don't think your gonna get mobshop to carry the PS2, at least at a discount. Video game hardware is sold at none to very little profit. I remember when I worked at Best Buy and we got the Nintendo64s, we weren't allowed to buy them. And when we were there was NO discount. The Game companies will actually lose money on the system sometimes, but they make it up with the games.

well ea is spending tons of money developing for psx2
since ea rocks with consoles especially with ea sports, i think it will be a major boost, the sports market can't be underestimated, a lot of ppl didnt buy dc cause of no ea sports games
