Other than the posts here...I've never really seen any display of appreciation...nice to know Vets are appreciated somewhere. Thanks Everyone!

I fought in the Great War. By some serendipitous miracle I can't begin to fathom, I lost. Oh God, if you are there, I bow my head in thanks.

To my dearest Father who could not hide from me the truth of war, rest in peace dear tormented soul.

Oh man, I can't tell you how many years, how many visions, how many memories, how many tears this post cost me. I have seen white crosses as far as the eye can see.

We are all vetrans of something.

It is possible that Moonie is not trying to be a disrespectful asshole in this thread about veterans of the U.S. military. Right now though, that's the way I see his post.

Dave, appreciate you keeping the list.

The biggest problem with the internet I have is that you give every idiot on this planet a venue for being heard. I myself was going to look into becoming an elite member but if this is what this forum thinks is an elite member NO THANKS.

I did the same thing in '66, except I opted for the Army.

Dave, you had to go and put me on a list, didn't you?

Don't thank me. Thank the millions who have died or left crippled to secure your freedoms.

My dad joined the Army in early 1946. They were resting on a beach near Japan (he was part of the people guarding the Emporer of Japan), and some nuts on an island close by didn't know the war was over and started shooting at them from their jeep. My dad shot at them a few times, and blew up their jeep.

Since my uncle is not here for this, I would like to say "thanks" to him. He was a warrant officer flying helos in Vietnam.

He now has a wife and two children, and is a great man. He does have some problems from the conflict but he is hanging tough.

Thank you Uncle Phil, CW02. (chief warrant officer 2nd class)

My dad repaired the shot up PT boats in the South Pacific in WWII for 2 years.

My dad's counsin, my 2nd cousin, spent 3 years in Europe with the Army. His exploits rivaled those of Audie Murphy. He had multiples of every medal you can think of except the M of H. He went in on D Day and went from buck private to sergeant in mere months. After most of his entire unit had been wiped out for the 3rd or 4th time he was given a field commission. He continued his wild ways and kept being awarded more medals. The European command pulled him off the continent and made him a personal aide to D. D. Eisenhower. Being a down to earth guy he didn't like cowtowing to the brass, so he resigned his commission and went back to an infantry unit where he finished out the war.

He got out of the Army at the end of the war, but times were tough and he was too wound up to handle civilian life. He rejoined the Army in 1948 as a Master Sergeant.

When the Korean War broke out he went in at Inchon. He fought his way all the way up to the Yalu River and retreated back to the S. Korean coast. During the final push he fought his way back to the 37th Parallel.

He stayed in the Army until 1967 when one of his buddies called him to let him know that orders were coming down the pipe for him to go to VN. He retired at that time. I can't blame him. He may have used up all of his luck

Forgive me if some of the timeline is a little off. This is all info I got from him over many years.

As a little side info on just how great our vets are/were, I had an uncle who fought through WWII in the Navy with Halsey. He then served throughout the Korean War supporting our ground troops. When I went to VN in 1968 he was the 2nd highest ranking enlisted man in country. On my way to my unit just after arriving, I was allowed by the 1st Sgt. at the repo depot to go hunting for him. I found him in a bunker outside of Da Nang. We went out and got drunk that night before he dropped me off back at the depot. He just died about 5 years ago from a sudden heart attack.

Anyone who tries to take away from the respect and honor our vets deserve by bringing politics or pseudo-intellectualism into the conversation has obviously never served and probably doesn't know anyone who has. People who try to minimalize the committment and sacrifice our vets have made should take another look at the lives they are able to live because of those Vets.
