That looks like a cool place to live! Sometimes I wish I lived in the EU.

It's pretty good I suppose. A bit sleepy sometimes, but on the other hand, no shootings, very little drug dealing (certainly not in the open) no street racing except for this crazy dude, but I guess he mostly put himself in danger

What's funny about your post, is that even the supposedly "ghetto" parts of Vancouver look pretty nice (other than a few guys sitting on the sidewalk or something). That's like trying to post the bad parts of Geneva or Stockholm.

You want some real dumps, check out Mexico City or Rio.

I think it looks pretty bad. The buildings look kind of filthy, weathered and run down. We had a building like that:
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=...d=aps8OgiKwW-rgOF1auIrYA&cbp=12,111.52,,0,1.4
It's being renovated now, but there were actually people living there until recently. But in the OP's pics, all the buildings have that kind of look to some extent.

One of the worst immigrant ghettos in Stockholm:

Similar immigrant area in my town:

FYI, this is what I picture when someone says "ghetto". While burned out cars and/or buildings aren't a strict requirement they are a plus. I haven't found an image with armed thugs chasing the vehicle YET, but I will update when I do.

man i wish i lived up there

I grew up/lived in in Richmond till i was 23 and now live in Surrey. My aunt lives just south of the # 1 at the 21st st exit and told me about the view from up there and i used to go up there a bunch when the road was just put in and there was no houses to screw up the view, thats going back 5-10 years now. Its not a long drive up there less than 4 min from the highway.

Ha, cool...I grew up in Richmond too but I moved out to Burnaby when I was 24. Still there .

The dumpy parts of Vancouver and Sweden look nicer than good parts of US cities.

You woudn't say that walking down through East Hastings. It's certainly not bad compared to the 3rd world as Dainthomas points out but it's worse than it looks in those shots. Not like it's dangerous though. I wouldn't really be very worried about getting stabbed or even mugged walking down through there.

I've traveled a lot and seen a lot of Asia where things are much worse but yeah I haven't seen the true slums of the 3rd world yet. Those parts of Vancouver I posted certainly aren't like that, they aren't even dangerous places to walk around in really. But they are worse than it looks there. At times you get crowds of people down there where a good 1/2 of the people are tripping out on something or withdrawing from something lying on the sidewalk. This gives you a better idea:

Although it's not always like that. Again it's not really a dangerous part of the city exactly either like real bad slums.

The last one looks like a camp ground lol. I don't know why but all those pics look "hot" to me, weather wise I mean.
Yea, you're right. Some of these trailer parks do look a bit like campgrounds, especially since there's tall forest surrounding the trailer homes. I couldn't find a picture of a proper run-down block house hood in town, so these trailer homes will suffice for the "worst of my city". Now, 20 miles north, Durham has some proper hoods and violent neighborhoods.

Perhaps, these pictures look "hot" because these might have been shot in the summer: the grass in "sweet view 2" is a bit yellow after all. It can sometimes get to be about 105F in the summer here (a toasty 40C). Hopefully Vancouver BC doesn't experience such harsh summer days!

Yeah we have mild but warm summers, never much above 29-30C. But we also have mild winters, never much below -2 or -3 (often 1-3C).

Lived in Malaysia when I was younger, not as hot as 40 but year round 32-35 and as humid as a sauna. I miss that sometimes.
