I want to hear about some KT7 Raid motherboards that are working perfect. If you have one, share it with us. Tell us what cards you have in each PCI slot. Tell us what you have in IDE 1, IDE 2, IDE 3, and IDE 4. Share with us what type of hardware you are using. Tell how you have your Raid set up, your processor speed, and what type and how much ram you are using.

Seems that number 4 is the best for a sound card but since you have it taken I would go with number 6 or 3. Whatever you do, Don't put anything in number 5 or 1. These share IRQ's.

duron 700 at 1043 mhz with arctic silver and taisol HS.

USB mouse will not work for extended periods. Handspring visor USB does work but its USB access is only like 10 seconds.

(i am at lab rt now and have been driking so am not sure if my slots are correct. will check later)

PCI 6 none
PCI 5 none
PCI 4 soundblaster live value
PCI 3 crappy matrox millenium II PCI video card
PCI 2 3com NIC
PCI 1 hauppauge winTV tuner

AGP none

According to my manual(only on RAIDv) only PCI#5 shares an IRQ with the HotPoint controller.

I've been up and running for the past day...

Brilliant performance and great stability (after a few initial hiccups; man, the KT7 really does require precise setup sequence).

Love this board!

Abit KT7Raid
AMD Tbird@1.1Ghz
Abit Geforce2 64Mb
SBlaster Live Platinum 5.1
Lucent Orinoco Wireless LAN
2x30Gb IBM 75GXP
Plextor 8x4x32 CD-RW

My NIC is in slot 3, and SB in slot 4. I had trouble with the SB--remember, just load the drivers off the CD, not the excess software (Liveware,etc.).

1 week so far, and except for the:
- Problems with WIN98SE backup (removed)
- SB Emulation (enabled LPT sharing)
- Problems with GL version Rollcage (unsolved)
- EZ CD Creator 4.02e (unsolved)

Am happy, and FAST. Suggest you look at Paul's Unofficial FAQ page for suggestions. I'm about to move the SBLive card to slot 4 to see if any difference.

My machine hauls pretty good.

Duron 600 @ 1100 MHz =] 100x11.0
128 MB mushkin cas2 PC133, rev 2.2
Sound card in 4......3,2,1...blast off
NIC is 3...and my friend nic is in georgia
AGP in umm...hrm...oh..what is the name of that damn slot..oh...AGP slot

Raid 0 with IBM 75gxp 30 gig drives on IDE 3 & 4
Plextor 12x10x32 on IDE 1
Kenwood or Pioneer DVD115 on IDE 2 (i can't remember nor do I care...performance is all that matters)

Machines runs wonderfully on everything but diablo 2 ...where it caches the harddrive way to much and causes jerking *sniff*
I'm going to guess more ram is the question since when I check it, I have no physical memory left *sniff*

My system works great, only video performance isnt excellent (v3 3k), everyone seems to have problems with PCI #1, but anyways...

T-bird 900MHz, 256MB pc133 (hst clk + pci), v3 3k in agp, SB Live! in pci #1, linksys nic in pci #3, 2 maxtor 20.4gb ata 100 7200 rpm drives in raid 0 on ide 3 & 4 running win98se for 3 weeks with no problems at all

btw, irq sharing == ok, relax.

I just finished my system this weekend, on Windows98:

KT7-RAID
Enlight 7237 midtower w/ Enermax EG351P-V 350w power supply
AMD 1.1Ghz @ 1.1Ghz w/ FOP32-1 cooler
2x128MB Kingmax PC150 SDRAM
IDE1 - Kenwood 72x TrueX CDROM
IDE2 - Internal Zip drive
IDE3 - IBM Deskstar 75GXP 30GB
AGP - Creative Labs Annihilator 2 w/ slot cooler immediately beneath
PCI6 - Linksys NIC
PCI4 - SoundBlaster Live!
Optiquest V95 19" monitor
MS Intellimouse in PS2 port
Logitech keyboard

Onboard USB disabled in BIOS. Disabled random stuff in windows (SB16 emulation, joystick port, etc). Haven't tweaked anything besides that yet, want to make sure it's stable first.

Flawless performance so far under Asheron's Call and Deus Ex, MUCH improved over my P2-400 w/ 128MB RAM and CL TNT2 Ultra.

what kind of performance are you getting from striping the drives? mine is pretty good, about a 20% gain, but i was expecting more.

My sound card is also sharing an IRQ with the Highpoint controller and it is on PCI3. It was the same when I had it on PCI2 (its first home) too. Now my winmodem (hardly ever used) resides on PCI2 and my NIC resides on PCI4. Is this a function of ACPI?
Edit: forgot about the question at hand. I'm not running Raid but I am using the controller. I have a WD 20G ATA66 drive on IDE3; a DVD on IDE1; and a CDRW with a zip drive slaved to it on IDE2.

I ran for 3 days without a lock up (the past 3) and just locked up a few minutes ago. Doh!

I got good results from relaxing the memory settings (found in Paul's FAQ) at least until the new memory gets here (Crucial)

I reformatted three days ago and have all the lates Bios, 4in1 4.25a, Det.6.34 blah blah blah

I dont like the current IRQ settings now (nic is sharing with vid)

what is the general consensus on what card should be in what slot?

t-bird 850 @ 1000(arctic silver and fop38...doesn't seem to break 30 degrees c very often).
2 x 128 mushkin pc133 rev 2 ram
2 x 45gig 75gxp ibm hd's(striped in raid 0...it took me much longer to partition and format a 90gig drive than it really should have)
radeon 64mb ddr(in agp)
linksys 10/100 nic(in pci slot 4)
sblive! value(in pci slot 2)

runs great now. think i can even push it up to 1050mhz, but didn't have time to play with it too much.

took me a while to get this stable since my previous setup(sblive!, 3com nic, adaptec 2940uw scsi controller) just WOULD NOT WORK. it's listed in the kt7faq that these components have problems. luckily, i have other components i could use(like my old linksys nic).

I had some consistent crashing with USB devices earlier but using the FAQ's from APU's Hardware at http://go.to/kt7faq I figured out it was the RAID 0 striping w/ one hard drive on the primary master and the other on the primary slave. I put this at primary and slave and took out the secondary controller and it's working w/o a glitch. I reinstalled as the FAQ order says to w/ USB filter and all that stuff. Here is my current config.
  • TV Wonder in slot 1
  • Slot 2 Linksys (new version) network card
  • Slot 3 - SB Live
  • IRQs
  • 00-System timer
  • 01-Standard 101/102-KB
  • 02-Programmable interrupt contro
  • 03-comm port com2
  • 04-comm port com1
  • 05-acpi irq holder for pci irq steering
  • 05-via tech 3038 pci to usb universal host controller
  • 05-same as above
  • 06-floppy
  • 07-ecp printer port lpt1
  • 08-system cmos/real time clock
  • 09-sci irq used by acpi bus
  • 09-acpi irq holder for pci irq steering
  • 10-linksys
  • 10-sb live
  • 11-acpi irq holder for pci irq steering
  • 11-hpt370 udma/ata100 raid cont
  • 12-ati tiv wonder bt878-audio driver
  • 12- same as above w/ - video driver
  • 12- nvidia geforce2 gts
  • 13- numeric data processor
  • 14- via bus master pci ide contr
  • 14- primary ide cont(dual fifo)
  • 15- via bus master pci ide control
  • 15- 2ndary ide cont(dual fifo)
Hope this helps.
Edit: I have a usb logitech wheel mouse, usb umax 3400 scanner, usb Z22 printer, and Polaroid PDC 1100 digital camera, all running perfectly =)
