Ok so I have a bit of a problem here Something in my computer is not allowing my system to load up for more than a very short while. Because of change in mobo's I can no longer use my older hardware to swap everything out and see what isnt working. So I'm here to ask if anyone can figure out what's wrong with the pieces that I cant eliminate...

So! Here's the setup!

PSU is a 650 W Cooler Master
Motherboard is an nvidia evga 650i ultra
Ram is 2 sticks of Kingston 5300 ddr2
Video card is a Geforce 8800 GTS superclocked

I know that the rest is actually working, the problem is coming from one of those four places. So does anyone have a guess? Any help appreciated.

Did you do a Repair Install of Windows when you switched motherboards...?

I was having problems getting much of anywhere before the computer stalled and I had to restart, I was able to get a linux partition installed but since then the computer is lucky to last 30 seconds before it stalls:/

Don't know much about Linux, but did you uninstall all the old Chipset/IDE/Graphics Drivers before you popped in the new motherboard...?

If you didn't, that's your problem. Do the "Repair' Linux install, if such thing exists...

Hmm, would any of those have an affect if the hard drive was not connected? Even if the HD isnt connected it still stalls at random locations.

HD not connected...?

What are you booting from, and what are you trying to do - maybe it is Linux specific...

But with 650i chipset you MUST do all the settings manually before you are able to boot and make the computer work.

Here is an example:

Unlinked.

CPU frequency: 1066 (or whatever CPU you have)
Memory Frequency: 667

VCore: 1.3V (if not, try 1.3125V) (CPU specific - if in doubt, Auto)
Mem. Volt: Kingston recommended
NB Voltage: Auto (if not, try 1.56V)

LDT Frequency: 4x

Memory Timings: (or whatever Kingston Recommends)
CAS Latency (CL) 4T
RAS To CAS Delay (tRCD) 4T
RAS Precharge (tRP) 4T
RAS Active Time (tRAS) 12T
Row Cycle Time (tRC) 24T (if not, 18T)
Row Refresh Cycle Time (tRFC) 30T (if not, 40T)
Command Rate (CR) 2T (ALWAYS)
RAS To RAS Delay (tRRD) 4T (if not, 6T)
Write Recovery Time (tWR) 6T
Read To Write Delay (tRTW) 5T (Unadjustable anyway)
Write To Read Delay (tWTR) 10T (if not, 8T)

Choices (in brackets) are secondary, if the primary choices don't work.
