The problem with docking smartphones is of cost and convenience. The MSRP at launch for the original dock was $500. The MSRP of the new Lapdock 100 (which has an smaller and inferior panel, and is also noticeably uglier) is $249. These docks really aren't really any cheaper than comparable laptops. Plus docking your smartphone everytime you need to whatever you need to do on your computer seems to be incredibly inconvenient.(Hey why have the bathroom sink when you got one in the kitchen?)

I'm sure the lapdocks will drop in price as they become more popular.

Nice thing about them, is that they are a one time purchase that can live through many smartphone upgrades.

I'm an Intel fanboy, so if I was CEO of AMD I would use the culture of corporate fawning and sycophancy to convince everyone on the board to drink cyanide laced Kool-Aid as a bid to please the dark quarterly earnings god, Kraptos. I would only pretend to drink the Kool-Aid myself. Then I would hop on my uber-luxury helicopter, fly to Intel's HQ, and high five everybody.

I'm just kidding, that would be totally sick, twisted, and wrong. Lol.

Well you only have Motorola producing lapdocks and interestingly enough I don't think the original Lapdock is compatible with the new Motorola phones, so while Motorola might improve compatibility in the future your still at the whim of proprietary connectors. What's especially telling is the complete disappearance of the Lapdock in Motorola's ads (the Lapdock was major advertising point for the original Atrix).

You guys stole my idea off page 2 with the mobile piece and lapdocks. Mobile is the future and its where devices are going. The lapdocks just need a common format across all manufacturers (which is where I think AMD / ATi could rule) so that the docks can be reused, and then the users are more open to spending more out of pocket on the devices for enhancements like SLI capable video, multiple cores, more RAM, etc.

The desktop of the future might simply be a monitor with a blue tooth keyboard and mouse...

Maybe a gamer box would have an additional GPU encased in something the size of an external hard drive that your phone would plug in to that'd be loaded out as an external graphics solution.

This area is still in its infancy. I own a motorola Photon, which is a dual core Nvidia Tegra powered phone. This thing is pretty amazing with its capabilities. It can run playstation emulators, MAME emulators, a full linux distro, etc. The laptop is expensive and its viable, but someday I think it will. And I also think someday, they'll also have desktop docks - once the speed of the phone gets to a point where it thins the gap between desktops.

I think the big hitters are all aware of this, which is why we're not seeing anything revolutionary emerge in the PC market. They aren't idiots, and while they might have not been on board initially, its a multi-billion dollar industry and they won't NOT be part of it.

Also, were I CEO, not only would I do what I stated, but I'd also sue for idea theft, since you guys stole my ideas.

Honestly evry1 just needs a thin client, there is no need for powerfull client anyway

I don't agree with that statement. I think the need for power is there, and once the devices catch up to our need for speed, it will be a different ballgame.
