Since I got mine today many people here probably got it too, but I am at work right now and won't be able to post my results until very late evening. Anyways with my alpha pal and 20+ cfm fan I get idle temps of 50c and 55c at full load. I am hoping the mg will keep my system below 40c at all times. You can view my entire system in my sig.

some initial results:

experience a drop of 7-10c across the board over my old setup (alph pal with 20+ cfm fan i estimate it to be around 25-30cfm because its louder than than my other 20cfm fan but not as loud as my roomates delta black labe)

wich puts idle temps at 42-45 and load temp about at 48c-50c
note that all readings were taken from the stock socket thermistor of my msi k7t266 pro mobo. and the temps were taken from mbm. ambient temp was around 70 - 73f, and my case is open on one side with only the cpu fan and video card fan active. powersupply is the antec 300 watts with a single fan in the back.

not that impressive i though, so i cranked it up.
at 1.5 ghz and 1.85 volts
50c idel
and 55 load

and most important of all it was actually stable!!! with my alpha i would boot in at 1.33ghz and 1.85 volts than clock it up to 1.5ghz from within windows. as soon as i load up a program it would crash. now its stable, although i havent stress tested it yet.

so what did i think of it? It didn't exactly blew me away but since it did show a 7-10 c drop across the board and my cpu can now be clocked higher (not even tested the upper limit yet, was 1450 before) I would recomend it. Problem is of course that socket thermistor readings may be inaccurate so we'll have to wait for some real professional reviews (mike, still waiting for your roundup) to know the exact numbers, but the fact that i can overclock higher is proof enough for me. Best thing is that noise level stayed on par with my alpha pal. in fact I run my system at 1.5ghz and 1.85 and i get identical temp readings and noise level as my alhp setup at 1.33ghz and 1.72.

Good to hear that $pade. As I said into a previous thread my CPU is a 1.33 GHZ with the voltage set as low as 1.575 V rock stable. So with the Glaciator I may be able to hit some nice performaces.

Another user review also cut and pasted
" Previously using the Coolermaster DP5-GH51 and running the KK266 with a T'bird 800. It was at 31 degrees idle and 48 degrees full load at 6 x 133 @ 798,1.725 volts in bios which gives me 1.79 volts, according to MBM 5. If I increased the fsb any further the full load temps would go well over 50 degrees. With the Glaciator the idle temps are 29 degrees, and full load at 36 degrees. I just upped the fsb to 7 x 133 @ 931 and it is running 30 degrees idle and 39 degrees full load and I haven't changed the voltage. It was very easy to clip on without using a screwdriver, but it is one heavy sucker. So far I am very happy with it. It is not much louder than the Coolermaster, which I thought was very quiet. I want to see how much higher I can go with the T'bird. "

oic, just another tip for people that like low idle temps pretty much when u are net surfing and chatting. get the latest version of cpucool wich supports athlon cooling and works very well on my system. Idle temps with at 1.5ghz and 1.85 are at 32c compared to 50c without.

apperently using wpcredit has the same effect as cpucool. certainly a good alternative for people that don't want to run any monitoring program in the background

I really don't understand the deal on the software coolers now. I used rain2 on my last 2 pIII's and it did a good job. It sucked on my new athlon. I am no longer using any software cooler but have acpi enabled and the athy stays at 1 degree above mb when idling. Why is acpi not good? I'll read up on the link but how much better can it get? 26c cpu 25c mb. According to mbm5.

By the way my mc462 seems to do little bit better, but I know the msi boards read different from the abits. DO they read higher or lower must be higher. I had my athlon at 1600@1.88 volts and it got to about 114f with an 78f mb reading. All I am doing is sharing info ain't trying to start nothing.

jugornot - I saw the same thing. Used software cooling on my Tbird (yes, supported Tbird, think it was cpucool actually) and I saw a 2 or 3 degree drop. Ok, that's nice, but not worth it IMO. With the temps I was still getting, chip would still be quite dead with a fan failure, which was my whole point.

I used to have a P150 overclocked to 200 running with RAIN. Could take the fan off (one of those nifty integrated intel/sanyo ones which are a bitch to replace) and leave it there with the bare heatsink - sitting idle the chip was room temp. Could do average windows activities (webbrowsing/email checking/etc) without the fan and just get the heatsink warm. Didn't run it like that much other than to entertain myself, but it's quite illustrative of how effective those were.

Now?

My new Glaciator wasn't able to distinguish itself from my $20 Vantec.
Both are lapped, as well as the core(t-bird 800), though I didn't
have my higher grits on hand for the MG, but I didn't think that would matter since it was already pretty flat,
just wanted to take off the oxide. The Vantec had AS1, and the glaciator
came with AS2. It idles at a higher temperature by about 1 degree C, it's
higher at load by 2 degrees, and it doesn't overclock anymore than the Vantec, I think
it might actually OC less since it crashes out quicker in 3dmark2001 than the
Vantec, but not by much. It could be something else that's the bottleneck,
but I tried it in my friend's system first (1.33 AXIA), and it was good for
1546 MHz, which is a little less than his Vantec would do, but still good.
He doesn't have a huge PS, so there might be another bottleneck there, too.
So far, it's not looking like the tolerable heatsink I'd hoped for. So either
my Vantec is like the god of heatsink or something's up with my glaciator.

I'm going to run 3dmark2001 and lock up my system now.

George
PS my fan's going at 5533rpm, low but within specs.
PPS t-bird 800@1081 p95, 1100 3dmark2k1, 1111 3dmark locks up

> millennium glaciator

Got one of these in the mail yesterday. Here is my 10 second review.

1) Wow heavy
2) Clip went on by hand (cheer) and seems pretty stable.
3) Comes with a packet of artic silver
4) MUCH quieter then the GlobalWin WBK38 that I replaced
5) Performs better then the GlobalWin WBK38.
It was 90f degrees (32c) in my office yesterday. My duron 750@1000 was idling at about 106f (41c) and topped out at 127f (53c). I never had any stability problems (which was not true of the WBK when its this hot). I think this is pretty impressive considering the ambient conditions. Maybe I'll turn on the AC and push it..

BTW: The wife cheered that the WBK38 was no longer shrieking its 7000rpm song throughout the house.

due to all the differences in mb and how they temps read, and the inaccuracies of the in-socket thermistor, mb post your oc. is your system more stable w/ a better overclock?
