Let's say I get crazy and obliterate Win98 for 2k, Any hope for dos games?

Maybe I'm lame and I won't play them anyway, but for right now it's the only reason I have a dual boot to begin with.

I'm thinking of just saying see ya to my 98 partition, running 2 2k's (getting rid of one eventually for XP or so) but what if I cry one day and want to play dos games?

You should be able to PLAY most if not all DOS games, but there won't be any SOUND unless you get a SoundBlaster emulation program, since NT (and Win2k) won't let the programs directly access the sound hardware. I forget what it's called but it costs $30 or $40.

Simplest to just boot with a DOS floppy that has the memory settings and drivers that your game needs. It's worth keeping win98 running on one machine if for no other reasons than to format floppies and have DOS7 easily available.

But then you have to use a FAT file system instead of NTFS on at least part of your disk system. To truly &quot;obliterate&quot; Win98 and run only Win2K, go for the glory and run NTFS only!

I'm sure I can manage one measly partition for FAT

Then again, I'll probably be running LInux too, and it can't read NTFS, can it?

All these decisions.

I have to reinstall 98 this weekend since my work software FUDGED it up bigtime, so heck let's see what will happen if I accidentally just do 2000 only

It sort of can read it. But it really can't write it (at least with anything approaching reliability).

I used to triple boot Win2k, Win98, and Red Hat linux. But it was such a pain, and Win2k does everything I need plus has NEVER crashed on me. At least not yet, but it's been a few months now.

Look for a program called (I think) VDMSound.
It's SoundBlaster support for WinNT and Win2K...free...

dah, no! First of all, you can format floppies under W2K...and secondly, why in the hell would you want DOS 7 to be easily available? eww....

1. Format a floppy under w2k and it won't boot DOS because it looks for ntldr instead of io.sys. 2. The DOS 7.0 that's in win98 is improved over DOS 6.22, including R/W FAT32.
