I see your concern about the lack of horizontal supports. It just doesn't feel right loading that much weight I guess lol. Its a solid unit though. Looks like you are all set. What speaker did you get? I spent a week researching those stupid things for my gym haha.
Also, that temperature. Wow that's cold.

You lucky mother. That's a ridiculous deal on that bar and all that weight. So awesome.
I hear you on the convenience aspect. God its wonderful to just walk out the garage door and be at the gym. No having to ask people "can I work in?" or "How many sets you have left?". I hated having to wait and the constant anxiety of knowing I was using something that someone else wanted to use. Also having to make compromises with my workout because the bench was taken or the squat rack was in use, so I had to make due with some crappy machine otherwise I would wait.
Then the drive to and from and blah blah. No comparison. I'd like to see some pics when you get a chance.
Oh crap, I almost forgot. You mentioned a T bar row. That sound like a land mind attachment. I got one and absolutely love that damn thing. Its a wonder attachment. With it I do:

Alternating 1 armed shoulder press (kneeling position)
Alternating 1 armed bent over rows
landmine twists

Its so convenient and efficient to use its unbelievable. I love that thing.
I want to explain the bent over rows. This is using just the bar and not the "T" attachment. There are two ways to do them. The bar between your legs allows you to support yourself with one elbow on a leg as you grab the bar with the other hand and pull. This isolates the movement. You can do one arm and simply roll the bar over to the other hand and do the other side.
The other way to do it is by placing the bar on the outside of your legs. This way your core is forced to keep you upright which hits your core as a secondary benefit, and also the one leg near the bar is forced to support all of the weight, and this places a load on that leg as you are in what is basically a squatted position. That hits the leg pretty nice and is a good secondary benefit also when doing it that way. Its just a really versatile piece of equipment.

Yup it is the land mine attachment. I've never heard it called that before getting the Rogue power rack, so I don't usually call it that. I was blown away by the deal I got on the weight and bar. I looked up the bar when I bought it and it cost $650+ new. Weights are usually at least $1.50 a pound, so I got a steal lol. I tried to pick up more stuff from them but some other gym came in and bought the rest before I asked.

Oh also, I live in a coal mining area and have friends that work in the industry. They can get super thick rubber coal conveyer belts for free. I used those for protecting the floor when doing dead lift and such.

That's good stuff Subyman. Tonight was landmine night along with some other stuff and it was a really great workout. I love the hell out of that landmine.

Wanting a better bench but everything in this picture was free. I have about 200lbs of york weights a friend gave me. I use kettle bells 75% of the time. Recently go t a 62 pounder than is eating my lunch.

Eventually want to replace the couch with a rowing machine, might be a while though.

That looks like a nice, comfy place to spend time in and exercise in. Very nice.

I'm looking at a Titan or Rogue folding rack for the garage. I pretty much stick with barbell compounds (oly lifts) and higher intensity exercises...feel like I'm wasting money at the gym right now. One day I'll come back and update this!

I'm working on fixing up a barn and getting the electric hooked up which will be my new gym. Insulation is all done, yay. I have an Ivanko competition bar and Ivanko olympic iron set. Hoist adjustable bench (1000lb capacity). A skinny Body Solid flat bench that I got for $10 at salvation army. Ironmaster 120lb dumbbell set + stand. Would like to get a nice rogue flat bench and the final piece will be a rogue monster rack with infinity straps + matador attachment. Also a few more bars with less aggressive knurling, a Texas deadlift bar for ego deadlifting, and kg bumper set.

That sounds like an awesome project. Don't be afraid to post progress pics Those are always fun.

Bumping this thread since I've finally got mine in a decent place. Still need to figure out where to store some of the stuff on the back of my platform but it's not really in the way right now.

What do you guys have in terms of barbells and rubber mats for the floor? Wife gave the thumbs up for a garage gym since I've stopped running...just contemplating barbell.

Just noticed this post now. That's looking great. You have a nice setup going there with everything you need it seems. Nice rack!

I bought a CAP OB86B. Its been great for me. Its one of the best values for a decent bar. If you are strong and lift over 400lbs, get a stronger bar though. This bar is plenty for my ass though.

https://www.amazon.com/CAP-Barbell-...d8418d55c9d9&ref_=as_li_ss_tl&tag=gargym0a-20

Rubber mats can get expensive as hell if you get mats that are actually marketed as gym mats. I bought horse stall mats. They looks and feel great and they are nuclear bomb proof. I bought 4 mats like these:

http://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/rubber-mat-black-4-ft-x-6-ft

I picked them up at a tractor supply near my house. They aren't exactly cheap, but they are stronger and cheaper than most other stuff you will find.

Hey MB - thanks for the recommendation. I actually pulled the trigger on that CAP barbell about an hour before you posted it. I looked at the Rogue Beater Bar and stuff, but figure an entry level bar will be fine with my limited amount of weights. (I'm hardly destroying anything in terms of weight)

Great call on the rubber mat. I like those...will have to go pick one up. I've looked at a few in-store but haven't really found what I was looking for in terms of durability.

Narrowed down my bumper selection too...just seeing if any July 4 sales go on this weekend before pulling the trigger. Will post up the setup once I have it

^ Nice one on the bar. I think you'll like it. It feels high quality and I really like mine. All I do is regular lifting though. No fancy Olympic stuff but I have read people use that CAP for Olympic lifts as well. You mentioned bumpers so I assume you are doing Olympic lifts where the bar is always rotating.
Let us know how you like it for that. You can always grease the thing if need be. I also looked at a lot of other bars and anything better than this is at least twice the cost from what I saw.

I read a good review over on Garage Gyms...they said it's a good entry level bar with no frills, little whip, so not necessarily ideal for oly. Then again, my goal is to work on form and get started on oly. Can always invest in a better bar with better whip later.

+1 to the horse stall mats - that's what I use in the 3/4" thickness. You can also get 1/2" thickness for a bit cheaper. Also they're pretty easy to cut with a sharp razor blade and a straight edge. I cut up one of mine to make the platform a few posts up.

As far as bars - I went with an American Barbell, about $250 which was a bit more than I wanted to spend (slightly higher than the entry level Rogue bars) but I've been super happy with it.

Awesome...will need to grab some at TSC then Pulled the trigger on a Titan Fitness folding rack (knock-off of the Rogue RML-3W) and some FringeSport bumpers. Bumpers still haven't shipped but should have everything else setup for this weekend, hopefully!

Excellent. Man, those bumper plates are expensive but pretty necessary for Olympic lifts. Also, I cringed when I saw the shipping price of my weights. Hopefully yours wasn't too bad. Building a gym is pretty exciting. I loved the process. Hopefully you can throw us some pics when you get things in order.

I have a set of the Fringesport black bumpers and like them.

The off-gassing was horrible at first but a couple weeks of letting them cook in the sun and it is gone and I can now keep them inside.

I also have the CAP ob86b and couldn't be happier with it. No problem with power cleans or any other lifts.

Luckily enough, shipping was included in the price. They're priced at about the same price as the Rogue Echos, but Rogue tacks on a crazy amount of shipping. (One of the reasons I went for the Titan over the Rogue rack) The 260lb set for standard black bumpers w/ steel inserts was about $424 shipped, which was great for what I need. I will post up pics when I can - thanks for the input!

Glad to hear on both the bar and the bumpers, since that's exactly what I bought lol. Do you move all your weights inside after use, or is your gym inside? I planned to keep them in the garage.

I had read varying things on the OB86B with some lateral play on the sleeves, but not like the bar/bumpers I've been using have been super high quality. (Bar I have no idea what brand, bumpers are Troy which I heard are the lowest of low quality)

Home gym is an extra bedroom inside the house. I didn't even like being around them temporarily for a workout and was going to get rid of them if the smell didn't get better. I read a post somewhere by the FringeSport guy who mentioned that they were working on a manufacturing change and that it also depended on how fresh of a batch you get. The ones that sit around in the warehouse for a while aren't as bad. Your plates might be fine, but if they aren't it will go away.

I don't find there to be excessive play in the barbell sleeves. I did get a few splinters from a few bits of chrome flaking off the sleeves at first. Whatever shortcomings there are with the bar I have never felt a better knurl or finish.

I will post up pics once we have the mats and all in place. I got a steal on an IronMaster IM2000. It came with the bench and 320lbs of weights. The dip bar and leg attachment as well as the pulley system with bar. I paid $150 for all of and it was delivered to my house as well. Have a few dumbbells, but for now we are doing SL 5x5, my son and me.

Finally got everything last night. Didn't get a chance to setup my folding rack, so did DL (regular & sumo) as well as cleans/thrusters this morning. Bar felt great - agree on the knurling. I will say, the bar was loud. Maybe just being in the garage. I do need to get the horsemats mentioned above - I tried a recycled rubber one from HD but it's thinner than I was hoping for.

Anyway, I will get pics up once I get the rack up!
