The level of graphic violence and sex is just too much to play in front of my 5 year old. That means I would only be able to play it when he is not home (very rare) or asleep. That amount of time per month does not justify the monthly fee imo. It's a shame, but I got to draw the line somewhere.

There's an option where you can turn the "mature" settings off like the blood so this isn't really an issue.

I assume this also removes the nakedness?

This game has replaced WoW for me.

What aspects of this make it fantastic? The combat, I assume? Crafting? Decapitation?

To clarify, when you say 'instance' you are just saying that when you hit a zone boundary you have to load. It is not actually loading a personal 'instance' a la Guild Wars or WoW 'instances'.

Not a personal instance but it's still instanced. There are multiple copies of each and every zone, even town. You can switch to a different instance, by clicking on a little button and choosing one.

Ah I see. So at any given time, what is the max number of players in an area before an instance is copied? Does this mean you will never have massive spur of the moment skirmishes a la the old school Southshore/Tarren Mill type in WoW?

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the AoC forums? I haven't been able to get in since Saturday afternoon. It doesn't recognize my name and password, and when I click on forgot password, it doesn't even recognize my email. wtf?

Is anyone else having this same issue? It seems strange the forums would be down for this long...

Edit: I finally got into the forums, apparently I had to update my forum information through the registration page.

I read over at the PA forums that someone with the same card was running it smoothly at 30fps with decent settings... I don't remember the resolution, but I can't imagine anyone running it less than at 1280 so you should be fine. Perhaps I'll find the quote later.

okay thanks. it's not for me it's for my friend I will be running it on a 9600gt which I'm sure will be fairly decent.

any knows how the 'buddy card' works? does it give something like 15 days free access to a friend? and it comes with instructions on how to download the game right? or does it require the install dvds?

i'm buying the game tomorrow and i'm thinking about giving that code to my brother, but he lives in colorado....

that is most disappointing...

I wish games would adopt a style similar to Asheron's Call.

WoW is the closest so far, but zone entries/exits were so restricted it may as well be "zoned".

Also to the dude who included Ultima Online in the "grind for loot" gameplay, you're crazy man. Ultima Online was one of the LEAST loot grindy games out there. You could compete with a GM suit of armor/weapons which cost barely anything at all. The grind was in the skills, getting your character better.

I was pretty disappointed first as well, but it's really not that bad. The areas are pretty massive. I do still prefer being able to walk from one zone to another, like in WoW, but who really does that anyways? Once you get flight points in WoW, you fly everywhere, so it's really no different than zoning in an instance.

When I was playing last night (after the starter area, Tortage), there were no other instances, just the one that I was in. Now, it was very late, so we'll see how many instances there are during prime time.

I'm on Stormrage, FFA PvP.

I probably would have rolled on one of the culture PvP servers if I would have known about it before I started on my server. I already joined a guild and everything, so it was a little late to go back. Ganking was pretty hard core in the starter area, but it was fun.

For those that don't know, all of the PvP in this game was supposed to be FFA, anyone can attack anyone. At the last minute, like, the day that Early Access began, they made 2 servers with a brand new PvP rule set called "culture PvP". It's a lot like WoW's PvP, where you can only attack those of a different faction, but in this case it's a different race, and there are 3 races.

Been playing Early Access since it started and this game is amazing. Out of the around 5 MMOs I've played, this is by far the most fun.

DTs and HoXs are killer!

if you don't want to play pvp, i'm on Dagoth.... was going to pick crom, but too bad that's european

rant: installation is 27 gig..... i had to move a lot of shit off the harddrive. this also means that installation is a long time, you won't have enough time during lunch break if you sneak out of work ...

27 gig is somewhat insane

That is huge. Maybe each client runs a backup of the server environment so that they can offload the processing to all of the clients and reduce their server load

Anyone with a spare key ?
I'm really on the fence with this one.
I liked the open beta but some of the bugs made me question the retail.

I have a quick question. The last MMO I played was *gasp* EverQuest 2. I've tried tons of them but this one really hooked me for the realistic and seemingly mature community. I really couldn't stand how cartoony WoW looked or how it seemed everyone I met in Ironforge talked like a 14 year old girl with more acronyms than I would ever want to know. EQ2 drew me in with impressive landscapes (even though the engine gave craptacular performance on new hardware) and the character development. I finally quit at level 72 because it was soo time consuming at that point and so vast that it seemed almost barren at times.

That in mind, is AoC something I would like? I usually don't care too much for spending hundreds of hours trying to get key peices of loot only to find that yet again 4 million scout items dropped and nothing dropped for me (exaggeration but still). I would rather spend the time adventuring into new areas and customizing my characters attributes and not armor farming as most end games seem to be. Does AoC seem like it will be an armor farm at higher levels or does armor not matter as much as it does in games like WoW where the person who spends 7 days a week in armor farming raids has a huge advantage over people who don't just because of a few more stat points on his purples....

Regardless of what it seems like right now the same is true for pretty much every MMO released today: Time > Skill. I don't care if it's for armor, weapons, some kind of 'point system'. It doesn't matter what you're grinding for you will be on the treadmill regardless.

This is SO far off.

If and when they decide to commit to a release date.

So what server is everyone on?

I think this game is awsome. My guy is only lvl 6 so far but the quests are pretty fun. They are a bit easy and maybe that is because I am such a low lvl, I don't know.

You certainly can play this as a mash buttons (i have done this a little) but I am trying to take it further as the combos require a little more forthought. There is some strategy envolved in the use of combos too. I think the fighting is great. I love the dynamic nature which tends to make it a little more real and believable. The only problem I have is the keyboard layout. I am going to have to play with it to see what I can come up with. Anyone using a gamepad? If so which one and how does it do. I have also heard some mixed reviews on the Ideazon (i think this is right) z-pad or something like that. I took a look at some pictures and didn't really like its layout not to mention price.

I think this is going to be a great MMO though I do hope things are a little more challenging as my char is ripping thru the low lvl stuff.
