Let's talk about Death

So, if you weren't already aware, one of these days your lights are going to go out. No, not the lamp in the living room; that goopy grey sponge in between your ears.

With this in mind, what are your thoughts? Do you even think about it at your age? How often do you think about it?

Do you ever think about the way it will all go down? Peacefully in your sleep? Blazing fireball of torture and agony before lights out?

And what do you think will happen afterwards? Cloudy paradise with trumpets and half naked angels? Oblivion? Spaghetti monsters?

Have you experienced death and somehow came back from it? Have you ever watched someone pass away?

Let me hear your mortal opinions on this subject.

The best advice I can give you is to stop thinking about it.

If you waste too much time worrying about death you might forget to live.

It's a comin, and we can't do anything about it.

Oh sure, you can eat better. You can waste your money and take vitamins. You can go to the gym 24/7! You can do everything Dr. Oz tells you to do. It doesn't matter.

I sometimes wonder why am I only conscious of my life. I feel like when I die, I'll be transported into the future as someone else. We're all made from particles and the particles that make me up will be united again in the future. Doesn't matter if it takes millions of years, it will happen.

Then, I think about how short life is and what I must do to get the most from it. I feel the best way to do that is to give back.

How many people give back? Not many...

I always feel like people think they are going to live forever. Life is so fragile.

I was reading about the life of Rod Serling. He is the guy who produced The Twilight Zone. Anyway, he gave an interview and the discussion turned to the time he served in World War 2. He was stationed in the Philippines, and freak accidents were a common theme. A friend named Levy was doing a comedic skit when out of nowhere a food crate dropped from a plane above and decapitated the poor bastard. What bad luck! What is the chance that somebody would die from a food crate that was dropped from above?

Serling's time in Leyte shaped his writing and political views for the rest of his life. He saw death every day while in the Philippines, at the hands of his enemies and his allies, and through freak accidents such as that which killed another extroverted Jewish private named Melvin Levy. Levy was delivering a comic monologue for the platoon as it rested under a palm tree when a food crate dropped from a plane above, decapitating him. Serling led the funeral services for Levy and placed a Star of David over his grave.[19] Serling later set several of his scripts in the Philippines, and used the unpredictability of death as a theme in much of his writing.

You cannot have death without life's contrast and vice versa.

My advice is continue to ponder about death, it leads to enlightenment. Literally the contents of an organ the size of a pea represents a paradigm shift in knowledge of your existence, your surroundings and yeah possibly the afterlife.

Well I didn't mean it as some sort of suicidal post, it was just an invitation to discuss your thoughts, as I sometimes think about it in a curious-type of way.

You can do everything Dr. Oz tells you to do. It doesn't matter.

That's mostly because Oz is a prick whose specialty is selling crap to women past their prime.

OP if I get super lucky I'll live long enough and make enough money that when the opportunity presents itself I'll be able to upload myself into a computer or replace my squishy parts with hardware. Realistically, I'm going to die at some point and I don't really care. That's probably a long way off, and if it's not then there's no way I can reliably foresee it, so giving it thought is pointless. It changes nothing; it's not like it makes my existence any more or less meaningful.

In a thousand years none of this will even matter.

Or will it...

Most people on ATOT type places are pretty far behind coming to terms with it I reckon. You'll respawn don't worry about it. Or we'll freeze you and then unfreeze you and super science away your diseases and you won't share the same fate as 99.999999999999999999% of all the other living creatures, yeah thats it.

No.... you're going to die...

Whoa. I always wondered what the motivation behind those stories was

I have seen death and experienced friends passing away at young ages due to violence. I never thought much about death until I reached my early 20's, at that time I realized death could creep up on me at any moment. I may have death anxiety and a fear of dying in a non peaceful way, but then again I can't look over my back, or double check things 24/7. There is only so much you can do to avoid unnecessary death, but when it wants you it will get you.

As a Soldier, I've sat in a part of the world where it was not uncommon to get randomly blown up. I've sat in rooms full of people, any of which might decide that day to turn their weapon on you and *poof*, you're gone. I've also had friends who suffered those fates and I've seen people pass first hand.

Having said all that, I don't sit around waiting for it to happen. I realize the fragility of life. I remind myself that I could be driving home today and never make it home. Because of that, I choose to live in the moment. To enjoy what life offers me now. To be kind and polite to people as much as possible. Pretty simple really, just live, death is gonna come whenever the hell it wants or whenever you let it.

Don't really care and never really think about it. When I dies, I dies.

I think about it, but not too worried since I have faith. I just don't want to die now or in a painful, pitiful matter. I have a lot to accomplish. Almost met death in a car accident. My mom and dad were in the front seat and we were not wearing our seat belts. By the grace of God we survived. My mom and dad were banged up pretty good, but I was in back, bent the whole station wagon seat forward with my chest and came out of it with only an abrasion on my forearm and a glass sliver in my ear. Before we hit my mom said a prayer and I think it was answered.

I watch two shows during the summer on TLC that really makes me think. Angels Among Us and Long Island Medium. Crazy stuff there. I bet there will be people to mock me now that I said I watch those shows. Well guess what Internet trolls. I watch FoxNews too and read the Drudge Report. Sue me!

Anyway... My french teacher said something like, "eat and be merry for death is certain." Sure wish I could remember the French I learned. LOL

I may return as a simple drop of rain, but I will remain. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFkcAH-m9W0

I don't think about it, but I do prepare for it. I'm insured, my family knows where the important documents are, they know what to do with my remains and all that, I have a Will in place.
