I'm gonna pick up some Telenti from Kroger on the way home and see what it is all about.

When I was down in Texas over New Years, I tried some Blue Bell and it was very good although far from clearly being head and shoulders the best I've had. What I was impressed by, is it was still a full gallon instead of this pussy 1.5 quart size that all the other brands are using.

The regular french vanilla kind? It most certainly does melt. And look at the ingredients: Cream, milk, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla flavor, carob bean gum, and guar gum. How would that not melt?

The ingredients for Costco's Kirkland-brand premium ice cream are the same (except Kirkland says vanilla extract instead of vanilla flavor, not sure if there's a difference), but for some reason I seem to prefer the Kirkland brand to TJ's.

Vanilla flavor comes from a beaver's anus. look it up.

Agreed that Talenti is damn good stuff. If we're talking about local stuff, then Salt and Straw wins hands down.

Salt and Straw in Portland, OR

Salt and Straw is fine, but ever since it was featured on Food Network, it's become monstrously overrated; you have to stand in line for an hour for ice cream that's acceptable, but not remotely worth an hour wait. At this point, Salt and Straw is like an umbrella; yeah, us locals would like to use it, but we'll forego its relative utility because it's so much more useful as a way to spot tourists. You know, like Voodoo Doughnuts.

Even the organic ones at Costco are twice the size.

I like small avocados. I often get bags of peewee sized avocados. If I just want enough to garnish a burrito, half a peewee is fine, I refrigerate the other half.

Avo ice cream? Never had it but that could be good.

Tried a couple flavors of Talenti last week, holy crap! The mint chocolate chip and raspberry chocolate chip were super good! Too bad they don't sell it in half gallons

Also, birthday cake remix from coldstone creamery is my god.

I actually love Cold Stone. They have a knock off place up here called Marble Slab, but it's not even close to being as good. They do have a few Cold Stones in Tim Horton's stores here, but they are few and far between unfortunately.

Agreed, Talenti's Alphonso mango sorbetto is very, very good. Also one of their few flavors I still eat as a vegan.
I need to try their Roman Raspberry.

Got a pint from Whole Foods. Not as good as their Alphonso Mango, but still berry good.

The 3.5 lb. tubs at Costco (I'm looking at one now) give no hint that they've added anything to the deglet noor pitted dates. They seem to keep forever. I keep the containers closed. I typically take a big handful of them and chop them into finer pieces, maybe about 1/2 dozen pieces/date, and store those in another, smaller container in the kitchen (unrefrigerated), for addition to baked goods, basically. Again, seems to keep fine, never an off flavor, no intrusion by fungi.

Yeah, they won't keep unless they've been treated. They'll dry out almost like a dehydrated date after a month out in the open air. That can be a good thing though, depending on the type of date - honey dates aren't very good fresh, but are awesome dry because that's when the flavor comes out.

These are deglet noor. I leave them in the plastic container (unrefrigerated), I suppose it's not a perfect seal, but once opened the dates still remain fairly moist after a year or so... I suppose they may be a little dry now. I've been eating a few out of hand the last few days, they are OK.

About 3 days ago I went to my favorite market, Berkeley Bowl, and spotted some of the dates they package there right on the premesis and bought 3 ~16oz tubs:

Medjool $5.99/lb (skipped organic, they were $7.99/lb)
Bahri organic $4.99/lb
Kaisab organic $4.99/lb

I think they're all good, the Bahri and Medjool are favorite. I'm thinking Barhi best bang for the buck here.

I have no idea how they are supplied to the market.
