Does anyone really think our founding fathers intended for anyone other than white men to vote? Or to REALLY have equal rights? I doubt it. Most of them kept slaves. If they were gung-ho about equality, why did they not stand up for women and slaves' rights? It really wasnt until Abe Lincoln that our government attempted to include anyone other than white men in rights.

4. Why are so many stereotypes TRUE, but no one will admit it? Numbers dont lie. Does the white man force blacks to instigate more violence upon themselves than any other race? Does the white man really have anything to do with the fact that the majority of our prison population is black? Does the white man make blacks do worse on tests? Why do such a larger percentage of blacks fail to graduate and score high on college admission tests? Is it really the white man's fault?

5. Why do white's suck at sports? Sure there are exceptions, but the exceptions MAKE the rule. I'm sorry, but blacks are more talented, more fluid, stronger, have more endurance, and more dexterious than whites. Why?

OK Thats it for now. Like I said I'd like to discuss this with respect. And yes, my current gf and I discuff stuff like this all the time. If you heard some of the things that come out of her mouth you might say she was a white racist...but she's black.

This was a topic of discussion in my intro psychology class last semester. It turns out that there was a study done where two groups of people (each group having some white and some black people in it) took the same test. Group 1 was told that the test would not count towards anything and test scores would not be compared with other peoples'. Group 2 was told that the test would be graded and participants scores would be compared.

In the first group, the black and white participants averaged the same score on the test. In the second group, the white participants scored as high as the participants in Group 1, but the black participants scored lower than the others on the same test.

The conclusion for the study was that anxiety about overcoming the stereotype that black people score lower on tests led to the lower test scores.

Bingo this is what I'm talking about exactly. But how do we solve this? Will we ever be a nation where the majority of people just accept other races without predjudice? Obviously legislation doesnt work, because so much racism still exists. Not just white/black, but black/white, white/asian, etc. How do you get someone who is racist to accept the fact that we are just people...just different? Racism is prevelant wherever you go, anywhere in the world. How do you solve it?

Maybe just accept that people in general have predjudices and move on? I dont know-

You're right, it should be OK. But guess what? It is OK. Yes, you will get flack. Why? Because, probably, whites have less to be proud of than the institutionally disadvantaged, and prima facia there have been more opportunities for whites than those other ethnic groups in the USA. A GF of mine (white) told me that whites will never be able to make it up to the blacks for what they did to them in this country.

I think that what a lot of the visionary founding fathers of the USA were better in theory than action. Give them credit at least for good intentions and for being forward looking in spite of the fact that they were slave owners, e.g. Thomas Jefferson. Slavery was a very hard habit to break - look at the civil war. It was by far the darkest hour in our history and it was really about slavery, whether it can and should be abolished.

Stereotypes are often not without foundation in fact. That doesn't excuse a person's prejudging others on the basis of stereotypes. Maybe most of the black people living on my block aren't scholars and don't have the highest ideals. That doesn't mean that some of them aren't exceptional in that regard, maybe far surpassing me. I have to realize that or I'm cheating everybody concerned. I know that blacks (for example, and I'm not limiting this or excluding any ethnic group) have unlimited potential. There are countless examples of blacks who have achieved the highest levels of most if not all of the most prestigious professions. I believe that all humans have that kind of potential and that all races have many representatives who manifest that kind of potential. If a particular race has a lower percentage of such people I put that to being in disadvantaged circumstances.

I think that in large part it's because it's easier for blacks to succeed in sports than in most other realms of endeavor that they might engage in. For one thing it's always easier to excel at something that you are expected to excel at. Blacks wear that part of their identity on their skin. Yes, everyone is a lot more than any self or outside imposed limitations. In a society where people are saddled with limitations practically from the start, it becomes hard for anybody to assert and realize their full potential. I think that goes double, triple, what have you for someone for whom a potential limitation is outwardly obvious: race (especially if you are of African decent), the obviously physically disabled.

Martin Luther King Day is for everyone. I said it in another thread and I'll say it again. If you can't understand why this day is for every single nationality, you've got major issues. Our world was very different back then and this day is to celebrate a man who fought injustice for everyone.

Very good point. The creation of MLK's Birthday holiday in the US was a landmark in the history of the country, plainly in-your-face institutionalizing the principle (I hope) that we plan to, hope to eventually overcome racism and ignorance in general as a national destiny. If we realize that destiny we survive. If not, I don't think so.

I still can't understand how people can honestly believe modern Caucasian people are responsible for what their ancestors have done, especially since the very same modern people have denounced and changed the system(s) voluntarily.

I suppose many times we put immigrants on this pedestal but many of our immigrants may not be any better than what we have here.

Who is saying this?!? the poster is talking about white culture as a whole. Hundreds of years of slavery and predjudice have created an inferiority complex for blacks in general. One reason they have higher murder rates, imprisonment, etc is because, as a whole, they have been held back.

thats why i inquired about your quote. those factors have more to do with culture than race.

id say for 90% of people it is more about how someone acts and looks than the color of their skin. but race baiters refuse to see that and want to put it all on skin color.

also, growing up in an extremely poor section of town, going to public schools that were 97% black didn't hold me back.
