Is it me or are "Allen Edmonds" shoes designed for grey haired males that double fist viagra/cialis?

As a 30 something male, I just can't look at AE shoes and say "damn that looks good".

What do you wear is the appropriate response here.

Just saying Allen Edmonds doesn't mean much as they make several styles.

If your go to shoe involves steel-toes, heavy gussets, and man-envy, then they would be the wrong choice.

BTW, even the young are playing with cialis especially.

Anywho, my latest shoe buys are Clark's Touareg for my daily pair, some Annapolis boat shoes for shorts, and I picked up my Fiancee a pair as well (her first set of Clarks and she actually wore them around the house because she couldn't believe how comfortable a good looking shoe could be).

I really wanted another pair of Wave.Hybrids, but no one has my size in stock.

I still have my J&M's in black and also cordovan for dressier affairs.

I'm with you guys, I have been wearing Rockports for years. They're priced right and they're a good fit for my feet and they last.

I don't buy them nearly as often as I did as for the past several years I can wear jeans and sneakers to work.

I like Rockports for the price. The last pair I purchased was some Cole Haan wingtips. Not as formal as an AE so I can pull them off with jeans pretty easily.

Although I don't think that of all their shoes, the majority do fit the description you have just provided. I'd have imagined these shoes are right next to the tweed jackets, monocles, and pocket watch section.

Dude, you have Alex Smith (born on my same day) and some herb crap in your sig.

Are you going there? I haven't seen many monocles nor pocket watches nor even the tweed jackets sold in the shoe section.

However; I like Robert Graham shirts and other finery.

SSSFail should be your new name.

Quick, someone find me a big enough facepalm pic for this utter fail of a retort.

Just picked up another pair of Cole Haans. Needed another black dress shoes, and got a great deal on these (black cap toe)
I also picked up some Johnston & Murphy as well. Not as dressy, but very comfortable. Not sure what I'm wearing them with considering they're an oxblood.

Allen Edmonds.

As far as them being "old man shoes". If old men prefer quality over hipster trash shoes with square toes, sure, then they are old man shoes.

There are PLENTY of other shoes that are of quality, that aren't hipster trash, and plenty nice, that aren't allen edmonds.

I'm starting to feel that allen edmonds are ATOT's shoes as are the Ford Fusion and Mazda 3 of the AT Garage.

They're $$$. Next big step up from AE (admittedly in both style as well as quality) would probably be C&J.

Unfortunately, very few other shoemakers make non-D-width shoes in off-the-shelf product.

Do you mean "M"? The majority of mid-tier shoes are Ms. A few brands like Florsheim only seem to make Ds, but M is very common.

With dress shoes it depends, and everybody has different definitions of "dress" shoes. A couple good pair of blacks, usually one less formal than the other for "everyday" office/work things. Another for more dressy and formal events.

Browns are much more versatile really, so a few are good to have around. Same distinction though: Very formal, Dress/casual, work. I lump dress boots/chukkas/etc in with dress shoes.

To be fair though, I usually only buy if there's a great deal to be had on a good pair. But there's some good sales and things to be found on great brands if you know where to look.

Johnston and Murphy - the last they use (wide feet) fits me like a glove.

Yeah, corrected grain leather, poor stitching, welt less and poorly resolable shoes are so great. But let me know what elsr may be good.

Next step up from ae would be alden

Ae is coming out with more modern designs with chisel fronts. Some aren't too bad.

Do some research on shoe widths. Being sized on a Brannock tester would probably enlighten you a fair deal, too.

That's pretty funny, I'm looking at my shoes and none of them are exhibiting any of the anomalies you described, not even my tennis shoes (well, except for the rubber sole Italian loafers, because you just don't resole rubber, it's bad, mmmmk?).

I'm not a brand whore, I buy shoes because I like the style, comfort, and quality. The shoes I wear range from CK to LV, etc...to unknown brands I bought on my expeditions, they all look great for what I want to wear them with, and none are of poor quality.

To say ae is the only shoemaker that can exert quality control is asinine at best, and stupid, at worst.

I have owned a lot of shoes also and have issues with most manufacturers for various reasons.

I am not a brand whore either, nobody knows I am wearing AE, or Alden, or Sargent, unless they ask me. There is no labels on them so I am not advertising it, which is the definition of a brand whore.

As far as value, AE delivers a good mix of quality and relative cheapness that results in a shoe that will last decades if treated properly after resoling. Sorry if that's such an issue and such a "old guy" tweed jacket viewpoint.

I guess if you want to buy eurotrash LVs, then AEs wouln't fit with you. But then again, you probably buy into skinny suits with high-water leg cuts, purple socks, thin lapels and strip ties with eurotrash glasses, your hair all greased up, your man purse hanging by a thin strap and a watch the size of a dinner plate.

I think that's exactly the point: the ONLY comment I hear on AE is quality blah blah blah. Don't see anywhere on this last page "I buy AE because AE looks good".

It's clear talk of shoes brings out the bitches of ATOT.

I am waiting for someone to drop the "oh no you didn't!" with their hand on their hip.
