Rockports or kenneth coles for me. I do have many other brands but stick to the 2. I have a pair of kenneth cole oxfords that I bought 15 years ago and they are still in great shape. Paid 500 bucks and another 200 a few years ago to have them resoled with leather.

dress shoes always smell all the be damned. and you bought a used pair? you gonna get foot disease if you not careful

Mine too. I would never buy a used pair. There's very little ventilation in them compared to other shoes so my feet get sweaty and smell.

I have a few pairs (since I have to wear them every day). I think my most comfortable pair are some Salvatore Ferragamo oxfords. Sadly, my GF wouldn't let me get any snake skin ones though. =(

Although they are not dress shoes, the most comfortable shoe ever on my feet were the Johnston and Murphy Runnell. Even more comfortable than Ecco's, so that's saying something. My Cole Haan and Gordon Rush dress shoes are also decent.

Allen Edmonds - I wear a EEE so my options are limited, they fit well and are super comfy once broken in. I just bought the Long Branch in December during their winter sale.

I have had bad luck in dress shoes over the years and frankly stopped trying to find a good pair. Everything I've tried at a fair price wasn't in my size, with is EEEE.

I think if I am to give it 'one more try' I will consider AE and see what a pair of EEEE fit on me. Not buying into any hype from this thread, but not capable of having hope after so many years of being let down.

It is sad trying to find a comfortable, quality shoe that fits for anything south of $500. And if you are not wearing them enough it is hard to justify the cost.

Never mind. Not even AE makes in Oxford Dress for Quad-E feet. I should be a ginger for such hate.

I would give AE a chance. I took a dive on my most recent pair with them being 14AA. Typically I fit into a 14D, but these 14AA are still very comfortable.

Johnston & Murphy are my goto shoe. I have like 8-10 pairs of them....different styles, but my favorite are Venetian style slip ons....I typically wear these daily with jeans around the office.

I am guilty of forgetting they are not Johnson but Johnston.

Their styles have really expanded since I bought mine.

Mine are by JC Penney's from their Stafford Executive lineup back in 199x. I have had them resoled twice and they still look and feel like new. My two pairs are somewhere between the Melton and Hyde Park II. I believe they may be the Hyde Park I actually whatever that was.

In the 90's things were really conservative in banking. If I was in my 20's again, even in conservative shops you have a lot of reign with your ties, suits, socks and shoes.

Last night unrelated to this I discovered new Tie Knots like the Trinity, Eldredge, Cape, and others.

There are some pretty pro methods of lacing shoes as well.

Jesus, just bought my first pair of Allen Edmonds. Paid out the ass. Was made easier with some Christmas money, but still.

Have to say, the best looking shoes in my closet by FAR. I am pretty excited about them.

Cole Haan
Mercanti Fiorentini
Stacey Adams (lower end but stylish, and quite comfortable)

AE are nice, but overpriced, IMO. Cole Haan with their Nike Air soles are more comfortable and every bit as durable in my experience.

Without the rest of your shoes, we have no idea.

For most folks even a pair of $150 dress shoes is major.

Did you buy a pair of shoe trees? You need a pair of shoe trees.

but AE like park ave, strands, Dalton, mcAllister or any of their good year welt shoes, those are all resoleables. Try that with Cole Hann, Merrcanti fiorentini and stacy adams.

twice a year, AE has their 2 for $250 sales on their shoes.

I've never had to resole a shoe.

And at roughly HALF the cost, I could buy a brand new pair if/when that was ever needed, and still have money left over.

As someone who has 4E feet, I have never found a 4E dress shoes. There are some with 3E
and a couple with 5E. The AE 3E oxford style shoes fit fine. The AE 3E loafers do not even come close to fitting.

If you are looking for a high quality dress shoe like AE, and need 5E because the AE 3E doesnt fit, Joseph Cheaney & Sons makes a comparable shoe.

I have yet to find a pair of loafers that will fit my feet. I am not sure they exist.

You dont understand the concept of getting shoes resoled.

You buy a pair of AE, you can resole them repeatedly and they are like new again. While yes you can buy shoes for half the cost, they aren't near the quality, and in the long run, after two to three resoles the AE's come out ahead. A pair of AE's can last 20+ years after being resoled half dozen or so times.

As someone who used to work in the industry, and who has owned two pair of AE, I can assure you I do understand. Thank you for your concern, however.

That being said, without a sale, they're quality, but saying others "aren't near the quality" is simply misleading. For how I wear dress shoes, which is to say they aren't worn through combat conditions and while hiking, plenty will hold up just fine for years.
Frankly, after a few years, I'm ready for new styles and a new look anyway. Hanging on to a pair for a couple of decades is not terribly appealing.

I love Stacey Adams, especially their Gator stuff. Have maybe 20 pairs. Outside of that I have a few pair of some Gucci.

i was gonna say, while it's nice to be able to re-sole forever... I don't think i want wear the same pair of shoes forever. Maybe except for some timeless, classic look (like the Oxford, i will be eyeing that)

For most of us, new styles and new looks <> business, but worker bee.

If you don't suit a suit everyday, then carry on. If you do, I'd like to see you selections on you.
