I think I'm warming up more to the Cragganmore.

Have you tried a JW blue label? Isn't that supposedly their best stuff?

My wife bought me Glenmorangie 18 yr for Christmas, haven't tried it yet.

I'm pretty simple. For my nightly scotch sipping Dewars is fine for me.

I think the Glenlivet is also very good and would always pick it up when it is on sale.

I also think JW Black is pretty decent. I've had several bottles of Glenfiddich 12 yr, not that great really.

What has me REALLY excited is a 15yr Laphroaig I also got recently. Wow, just blew me away, Islay scotches are NOTHING like anything I had ever had before. I have since bought the 10yr Laphroaig and it is also very good - a lot cheaper too. Definitely something to consider when they all start tasting the same.

John Begg Scotch Blue Cap is my fav. It probably is not in the same catagory as the scotches mentioned above since it is not expensive.

Yep, I like the Islay scotches too... Lagavulin is probably the most flavourful, but the 18 year Bowmore is really nice too.

i meant pure malt:
from wiki:

Green Label ? a vatted malt whisky that consists of a blend of about 15 individual single malts, the signature malts being Talisker, Cragganmore, Linkwood, and Caol Ila ? Aged 15 years. 86 proof. 43% ABV. Previously sold under the name 'Pure Malt'.

Lagavulin is very good. I like Glenfiddich 18 yr as well, but I can't afford that.

Anybody like Laphroaig and Laguvulin both? I had Laphroaig first and I though it was overbearing. Laguvulin seemed to have the nice flavors typical of Islay, without being overbearing and is very drinkable. Laphroaig, I needed breaks in between sips because the flavor from a sip lasted like 5 minutes, these were tiny sips mind you!

I don't remember if the Laphroaig 10 I had was normal or cask strength if that matters...

Im a fan of glenfiddich... I've tried the 12, 15, and 30 year varieties.

I got the 30 year one at a duty free for like $80 (vs $45 for the 12 year)... expensive, but it was really good.

Do you like Sherry or Peat?

Sherried:
Hard to beat The Macallan - older the better
Aberlour is very good
Balvenie Portwood 21 - if you can afford it, you should drink it

Peaty:
Highland Park - ranks high in "value"
Lagavulin - one of my favorites
Laphroaig - Not only is it very nice, it's fun to say!

30 year for 80$ is a mofo steal!!!!! 18 year goes for 80$. 30 year typically goes for 150+$. Man I wish I could get a sip of the 30 year...

Mwilding -- the only exception being The Macallan 1946 which was peaty. Very rare, very good.
