That's horrible. Imagine how prosperous India would be if they never kicked the British out. Imagine all the innocent Indians that died because of Ghandi. All the people starving right now because of his socialist vision.
Let's get real. The British were murderous thugs. If they were not basically kicked out, then they would have probably continued their many acts of genocide that there would probably be about 10,000 Indians left.

He was clearly being sarcastic. Or was he?...

Same:
Economic Left/Right: -6.38
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.92
I knew I was a hardcore liberal but I never thought I was that socialist. I think the problem is the questions were about social healthcare etc, which I feel very strongly about, but there was no question like 'do you support breaks and grants for new businesses' or 'do you support apprenticeships in businesses' or 'do you believe a 50% tax rate is too high for anyone' which I would have voted yes to.

Left Right does not work as explained below it's too simplistic and why we find seemingly opposites agreeing with one another every so often. Take the test and see where you are. At the end they have past and present leaders so one can see how they compare.
http://www.politicalcompass.org/test
On the standard left-right scale, how do you distinguish leftists like Stalin and Gandhi? It's not sufficient to say that Stalin was simply more left than Gandhi. There are fundamental political differences between them that the old categories on their own can't explain. Similarly, we generally describe social reactionaries as 'right-wingers', yet that leaves left-wing reactionaries like Robert Mugabe and Pol Pot off the hook.
That's about as much as we should tell you for now. After you've responded to the following propositions during the next 3-5 minutes, all will be explained. In each instance, you're asked to choose the response that best describes your feeling: Strongly Disagree, Disagree, Agree or Strongly Agree. At the end of the test, you'll be given the compass, with your own special position on it.

Many of these questions are very biased in their wording, too simplistic or just stupid. For instance:
"A significant advantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system."
This is undeniably true, but it's also true that a significant disadvantage of a one-party state is that it avoids all the arguments that delay progress in a democratic political system.
"Good parents sometimes have to spank their children."
It's one thing to agree that parents can spank their children and still be good parents. It's another to mandate the spanking of children as a requirement for good parenting.
"Those who are able to work, and refuse the opportunity, should not expect society's support."
I agree with this statement as it's written. I disagree that it is a problem, and that their is a large segment of the population that it accurately describes.
"The only social responsibility of a company should be to deliver a profit to its shareholders."
Delivering profit to shareholders is not a social responsibility.
"Those with the ability to pay should have the right to higher standards of medical care ."
I don't see where rights come into play here. If the rich get "higher standards of medical care", implied is that "higher standards of medical care" are being withheld from those with less money. Personally, I would like medical care to be as good as possible regardless of the patient's wealth, but I realized that the rich will have more options in terms of care. The very rich (or very well insured) can fly to Switzerland for a new surgical technique, but some poor guy from Missouri with the same condition may not be able to. This is unfortunate, but perfectly natural and unavoidable.
"Abstract art that doesn't represent anything shouldn't be considered art at all."
I don't see where the answer to this question puts one on a political scale, unless the test writers are biased like I am. I think social conservatives are ignorant, and I would correlate ignorance (agreeing to this) to social conservatism.
FWIW I got:
Economic Left/Right: -5.00
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.69
