i dont know about the cars, but i could never see nissan beating toyota or infiniti beating lexus. i personally would have gotten an IS300 over a BMW 3 series, and i would have defintely gotten a BMW over an infiniti.

with that said i vote IS300.

Performance wise this is not even a close call. In a sense it seems goofy to compare an existing sedan with an as-yet-unreleased coupe, but from what I have seen of it the G35 coupe looks gorgeous and looks to be a great value.

Well, depends on what you mean by "beat".

IIRC, Infiniti was tops in quality/reliability (?) by JD Power, besting even Lexus, so that's a beating for you.
Performance wise, no doubt the G35 has the IS300 beat, so there's another beating.

Maybe if the "bang" you seek is your transmission self-destructing!

Exactly what happened to my BMW years ago - OK it wasn't the transmission - it was the timing chain which broke & seized the engine and the car was finally totaled. (this was a 4 year old car with abt 45,000 miles on the clock) I've never looked at a beemer ever since.

I currently own a 6 yr old Grand Cherokee which has done 130,000 miles and the sum total of repairs (apart from normal wear & tear like brakes, tires, scheduled service etc.) has been:
A new radiator ($350)
A transmission solenoid + transducer ($215)
Both happened this year. So I?m now looking for a replacement next month or so and my choices are:
Grand Cherokee (If I decide to stay with an SUV)
300M
Acura 3.2TL type S

I found the Acura smaller and prefer the way the 300M handles and drives (Yes I have test driven both) so it looks like I will go for the 300M. If it lasts around 120,000 miles I?ll be happy and so far, from what I?ve read, it?s relatively trouble free to that point. I have no intention of keeping a vehicle till it dies as a lot of Acura owners do. To each his own.

Of the 2 cars in this poll my vote goes for the G35. Infiniti/Nissan have started making great cars.

I too will make the IS300 vs. G35 Sedan (6-speed) later this year. I am waiting to test drive the manual version of G35 before I make any decisions. From what I've read, the IS300 has tighter handling but offers a harsh ride on highways, whereas the G35 is a little softer.

I definitely wish you luck, but I have known three separate people who bought Chrysler Concordes or 300Ms within the past three years, and they all had major problems early in the car's life. Two of the three needed transmission replacements, and all three had a variety of smaller but still serious problems (like failed window motors, frozen door locks, interior pieces falling off, etc.). This was all within the first 30,000 miles.

I think this is a real shame - Chrysler is designing some very handsome cars, but I have never heard anything to indicate their reliability is even average, much less good or better. If I were in your shoes, I would take a long, hard look at the G35, which is large and very spacious, and should be many times more reliable than a 300M.

I agree. I've never seen a woman driving an IS300. It's a tight, fun car to drive with Lexus quality to boot. At this point, I still trust Toyota over Nissan in terms of quality. Did you all know that Renault owns 44% of Nissan? The French can't make cars good enough to sell in the US!

I agree. I'll take an IS300 5-speed.

So did you take good care of your BMW?

What you just said sounds like a contradiction. You say your BMW broke its timing chain and trashed itself but was that preventable even if you took excellent care of your car? I don't think so. I think it was either just random bad luck or poor quality parts.
