Most of the drives include dumbed-down editions of the software. The last Blu Ray drive I bought, for example, included a functional version of Power DVD but it only output 2.1 and you had to purchase a software upgrade for surround sound.

But that is a monster deal no doubt.

Wow, bought two of these for $99, good deal. Even when comparing to the recent Sony $30 blu-ray read-only drive "special deal," you're only paying $50 extra for a blu-ray burner.

The included Cyberlink PowerDVD software is no joke. Cyberlink is miles ahead of some hefty competition in the consumer video-encoding market, so they know how to play blu-ray DVD(s). I'm thinking about upgrading to their latest, full version.

I have the exact same drive for my dad's computer. Windows 7 64-bit recognized it no problem but the Cyberlink software refuses to install because it doesn't recognize the drive as an LG drive. WinDVD works like a champ on it though. I been telling myself when I get the time that I would troubleshoot it to get Cyberlink software installed but my dad is in no hurry to record blu-ray so I been putting it off.

If you guys run across this same problem please feel free to contact me.

Right there you can get 25 pack of 4x BD-R 25GB for only $20 shipped after $5 combo discount . That would make them 80cents per disk (or 3 cents per GB). In comparison that's around the lowest price per GB for an HDD ever (remember the very short lived 2TB for $60 at new egg before Black Friday).

The glasses, well, it made me laugh. My 3D TV's actual glasses make me cry - $150 a pop. We've got two, but need at least another one. Not all the shutter glasses are the same, either, since they are tinted differently (Ours is Samsung, Mitsubishi also uses the same tint). I'm not sure how those glasses are intended for a "3D-Ready TV" - wow... NewEgg seriously got that description screwed up.

I got PowerDvd 9 with an earlier deal from Newegg selling this drive (well, the WH10LS30 - this one is the WH10LS30K) and the software does output to 5.1.

I bought this earlier for the $80 deal a few weeks ago and the included software does output to 5.1, at least on my setup.

I actually received two copies of the LG install disc with powerDVD, one that said "3D" on it and one that did not.

I think to use BD disk for backup pictures and home videos. How reliable the disk for long time storage?

I don't think there have been any reliability tests on the discs as they are too new.

I have VHS tapes which still play perfect information recorded 25 years ago, however some my RW DVD stopped be readable after 5 years. So tape seems still the best source for long storage backups. Is there any effect of burner quality of reliability?

For blu-ray playback/ripping is this drive with the included software worth it or is it better to get the $40 Liteon BR drive and pick up a copy of PowerDVD or TMT?
