HDR works fine for me too, although I think the only game I have that supports HDR is Mass Effect Andromeda. As Adam said, the ABL is more noticeable in HDR mode and kicks in frequently. I did get some of the firmware updates a while ago, but am sticking to 04.10.15 for now since people are saying the later ones cause issues with the blacks being crushed.

@AdamK47 Yeah, if you stay consistent you'll have no problems whatsoever, but you know, a lot of people don't want to constantly worry about their TV, so it's not for everyone. The Fact is, even in 2019, QLED still can't quite match OLED in Contrast and Black levels. Yes the QLED is brighter, but i'd gladly trade Brightness for Contrast, since that's what I care about the most. That's why i'd choose VA over IPS every time and I don't mind sacrificing Viewing Angel. Enjoy your TV.

10 months in and no burn-in. Did all the solid color tests. This is with 100 OLED brightness and 85 contrast. Had used these settings for most of its life.

I had been using it for between 4 to 6 hours a day. 5 to 6 times a week. Recently replaced it as my main TV / PC monitor with an LG C9. The C8 now sits in my bedroom where it will get used between 1 to 2 hours a night. Since it's going to be used at late night before bed, I turned the OLED brightness down to 70 and the contrast down to 65. I don't expect to see burn-in at all while I still own it.

It would be interesting to document how much color shift occurred over that period of time. Obviously, that sort of testing is much more difficult to quantify without the proper gear. But OLEDs do degrade over time so color accuracy falls off over time, I wonder how quickly it happens though.

Yeah but that's not desktop PC usage, TV content is highly varied, whereas desktop PC usage can often be very static for extended periods over large portions of the panel.

I've had my E8 for a year now and have no burn-in at all. I do keep it at 0 brightness for windows and only turn it up in games and movies. My brother has a C6 and has been using it in the same way for 3 years now, and there is no burn in there either.

Yeah, but LG builds in overhead on every sub-pixel. On ever 4 hour+ viewing, when the display goes into standby, it will initiate the compensation cycle. This will determine the degradation of the sub-pixel and increase its brightness to compensate. "Burn-In" occurs when that sub-pixel can no longer be boosted. The sub-pixel will be as bright as ever if the degradation is not bad.

I'm considering an OLED for gaming but I'm wary of burn in. I play FFXIV that has always on static icon/action bars. Play about 16 hours a day. (Don't judge me)

As good as compensation cycles are, 16 hours a day might burn-in eventually.

Though it would probably be fine for a while, and the extent of the burn-in could be heavily mitigated depending on exactly what the static UI elements are.
