LG G Watch - what does it actually do?

I see Anandtech and LG are giving away two of these watches. I went hunting for info on them and found specs and pics but almost nothing about what these watches can do. Are they simply bluetooth touch screen monitors for an Android phone/tablet? Can they stand alone?

Pretty much, they don't have wifi or sim capability so they need to be tethered to your phone via bluetooth. They simply extend notifications onto your wrist.

All of these "smart watches" are not smart. They just are notification centers for your phone but that's how it's going to be. True smart watches would be very expensive with having their own data connection etc etc.

It makes your wallet lighter. Don't fall for yet another 'must have' accessory; it's just a ploy to get you to part with more money.
