I've been holding out for the G4 but I feel I'm in for a big disappointment.
I'm hoping they can wow me like they did with the G2.
From the leaks, a slight curve G4 is not my idea of wow.
Make a phone with smaller bezels than the G2, bigger battery and a premium look to it. That's what I'm looking for.

I was just about to buy a G3 from Swappa for about 340 until I realized that G4 was going to launch soon.
Obviously major price differences, but my Nexus 4 is barely charging (USB port finnicky - replacement board often seem to have issues with the microphone, which is also on the same board, making it hard for others to hear you). I was planning to upgrade to whatever Nexus 2015 is, but I wouldn't mind doing the full cycle upgrade early if the G4 delivers in spades.
Not a Galaxy fan - its great design, but Nexus has taught me that physical buttons aren't needed on the front of the phone.

If the G4 disappoints, hopefully it drives G3 prices below 300 and I can pick one up then. IMO the G3 looks great, I'm just hesitant about this flexible curved design thing on the G4. I also can't imagine that they'll push more than 1440p - its already a huge PPI and while I want more, I wouldn't sacrifice more battery life for it.

And lastly what is wrong with the Snapdragon 810? I haven't been watching the news lately.

the 810 has overheating issues.

has that been verified? IIRC, it was just a single image showing something incredible (~20C temp difference?)...is it real? Wasn't that running some kind of program that was pushing all the phones to full tilt?

any better data on what day to day usage looks like? Maybe certain day to day applications is truly representative of full tilt?

It's a shame as it sounds like LG is really pushing to try and compete big time and if not for the 810 would have a really compelling phone in the G4.

Although it appears they're going for a leather back option, only this one has an actual seem running in line with the buttons and sensors on the back.

Read the AT review on the HTC M9. It gets hot and throttles (hurting performance) and makes the phone considerably hotter than other phones.

It's been verified by multiple sources. Too hot and it throttles drastically. They also supposedly fixed the problem in the latest batch of chips but no telling if they made it into the first G4s that are undoubtedly in production already.

I don't understand why the g3 bezel was wider than the g2.

The G3 is physically 2.94” wide vs 2.79” on the G2. That's just .15" apart.

The G3's 5.5" screen is 2.7" wide.

The G2's 5.2" screen is 2.55" wide. That's the same .15" width difference.

Seems the same width to me.

I'm assuming issues related to heat was fixed w/o impacting the performance? I'm curious what those were...

And yes, it looks like it'll make for an interesting game of finding a phone without impacted 810 chips.

It's such a shame, but other than Samsung, it seems everyone else is just going to use the 810

Didn't LG say something about wanting to make their own chip a while back?

That is a lot to assume. The 810 has been a disaster in the making for over a year, I don't think they fixed the problem so easily or they would have fixed it for everyone. Maybe the manufacturing has improved enough, but I bet what is happening is that it is throttling down even harder to avoid any more nasty heat images ruining their PR attempts. What you end up with is a phone that effectively is near the speed as last year's models, but with more battery usage.

There is a reason I snatched up a M8 at the end of 2014 to avoid the eventually ruined M9. The fix will be when Qualcomm gets back to their own CPU design on some post-810 SoC. Between now and then we are stuck in a regressive era (that was very easy to see coming).

Huawei will be our savior. Like Samsung they too have their own SoC, so they aren't dependant on Qualcomm. When that cheap Huawei Nexus hits later this year with a solid SoC, a reversible charging plug, and no skin everyone here is going to flip because it will be the only decent non-Samsung option.

Between now and then save your money for the next Nexus. I am.

Looks wise, it's nice. However, at 8.9mm thick, it loses badly to the iPhone 6/Samsung S6/Sony Z4. Hopefully that means the battery inside is actually much larger than those phones.

Yet another phone with differing bezel sizes for the top and bottom. Watching video in landscape is slightly annoying when the screen is shifted to one side. A minor nitpick I know, but it seems only Samsung and Apple seem to understand that symmetric looks better. Not sure why the other companies keep doing this.

Wow what a big big disappointment.
LG phones keep getting worst.
To me, the G2 was revolutionary.
Super thin bezels, huge battery, I like the buttons on back.
G3 was nice but beside the bigger screen, it did nothing for me and the battery life was worst which is the main reason why I didn't upgrade.
The G4 looks cheesy to me.
I was looking for 3 things for me to upgrade to me.
Thinner bezels, bigger battery and premium materials.
I got none of those.
Sure you can say the leather back is premium but looking at the front scream plasticky to me.
Bleh....what else can I look forward to now ??
Nexus 7 ?? I won't see that for another 6 months.
The GS6 is nice but $700 is steep and the battery is so-so.
It took Samsung the GS5 to realize the recycle of the GS3 wasn't going to cut it anymore and they create a very premium phone in the GS6.
The G4 will make LG realize that this recycle shit won't cut it with the consumer anymore.
Same shit with the HTC M9. Nice phone but common, its the same shit from 2 yrs ago.

You might want to read up on some reviews.

The Galaxy S6 battery is better than the iPhone 6 and Galaxy S5. Only the Galaxy Note 4/iPhone 6+ beats it but that's because they're phablets.

The LG G4 has a quantum dot display.

Sounds very high tech.

The leather back with the seam down the middle looks like female genitalia.
