That said, I was reading android dev forums for the G3, and the consensus is that it wasn't AOSP friendly which has led to a weak community....I do hope that the G4 is far more AOSP friendly.

Part of what made the G2 so AOSP friendly was a similar Nexus device. In that case G4 customers who want AOSP better hope the Nexus is similar.

Heck that is the exact reason I am not even considering a Galaxy S6. No matter how great it is, all of the AOSP ROMs for that thing will be a hack. The S4 had solid AOSP ROMs based on its Google Play Edition, but without that every other Galaxy since the S1 has had varying levels of ASOP support, and nothing near what you get with a Nexus. I am sick of third party ROM bugs personally.

I just want root so I can remove bloat. At this point most of the stock roms are good enough that I wouldn't really bother too much with custom roms unless there's some feature I want.

Here is some more information on the LG G4

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/new-prod...e-date-price-specs-uk-rumours-leaks-april-28/

LG has already talked about the camera on the LG G4 touting it as a key feature with a 16 Mp sensor and f/1.8. The leaked image also shows a detailed camera app which will have three shooting modes: Normal, Simple and Manual. Users will be able to control ISO, exposure, white balance, shutter speed, slow synch flash and even shoot in RAW.

Hopefully the camera software is optimized well enough that this camera can compete with the ones on the 6 plus and GS 6... no mention of optical stabilization could be a concern for people who consider the camera an important feature.

About the only thing not mentioned in this bumper leak is the processor and memory which we expect to be a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and most likely the 64-bit 810 chip unveiled in the LG G Flex 2 at CES 2015.
However, LG has announced its own Nuclun processor which is rumoured to feature in the G4. The Nuclun is an octa-core processor with LTE-A Cat 6 network capabilities to allow for 4G speeds up to 300mbps (theoretically) so this is also a possibility.

Interesting information maybe the new processor won't make it's debut in the initial G4 model but for future models it seems a good bet that LG will follow Samsung's lead as far as using their own processors for their phones.

I'm glad this phone is keeping the option of a removable battery and memory expansion in 2015. Hopefully the Note 5 will also keep the option as a way of differentiating Samsung's flagship phone lineup. While thin beautiful phones are nice to look at I prefer function over form rather than the reverse. A removable battery and expandable memory is more important to me than most others I suppose.

I have to imagine that the G4 will have OIS as the G2 had OIS and then G3 had an improved version of the OIS (+ I think is what they called it?)

Maybe they do but I just didn't see any details on it in the link and it does seem like something to promote or confirm. But you are right it seems unlikely they'd take a step backward with the camera as most people also use their smartphones as everyday carry point and shoots too.

When it comes time to upgrade. this has joined the shortlist of
Note 4
GS 5 (not exciting when it came out but not a garbage either)
LG G4 (just added)

I like the option of a microSD card. and when I upgrade I'd like to be able to drop my media files into a new phone and not have to worry much about transferring them to a computer then back to a new phone.

Is the s808 GPU even at s805 level? That's a big compromise for a QHD display.

808 confirmed.

I think CPU-Z database is incorrectly filled. It's supposed to be 20nm.

Poor choice of SOC IMO. LPDDR3, less bandwidth.

Memory/Storage
LPDDR3 933MHz Dual-channel 32-bit (12.8GBps)/eMMC 5.0 SD 3.0 (UHS-I)

808 confirmed.
Sorry, but how does that "screenshot" confirms anything? I see that is a LG device, thanks to the stupidly oversized navigation buttons, but what does it confirm that's a G4 and not some derivate variant.

I hope battery life and the camera are outstanding. Cause why wouldn't you just get a the faster Note 4 that has everything the G4 has and is likely faster.

Anyone catch if it has a fingerprint scanner? Apple ID turned out to be way more useful than I thought. Haven't seen it mentioned, but I know the s6 has it. Not too worried about the 808 provided to gets returns on battery life.

I don't think I've seen it mentioned (and has LG used one on any phone yet?) so I'm guessing it doesn't.

My concern about the 808 is the GPU. Once the A72 comes out, I'd actually love a device that goes with dual A57 (to run the OS) or maybe even A53 and then give apps that need performance (games for instance) 2 A72 cores to work with, and then put the space from not going 8 core to beefing up the GPU.

As for the G4, seems...ok. I like the emphasis on the camera and them not caring about thinness at the expense of features, but this just doesn't get me otherwise. It's not that it's bad, it just needs more to be a flagship phone. I think I would have preferred them going with a 1080p OLED at 5" and competing with the Moto X at $500.

The latest round of Android flagships = yawn, imo. Wake me up when there is something worth having - not just spec bumps, or some company finally adopting premium build quality six generations late.

I agree. It's like the Note 4, minus the stylus, likely with a worse screen IQ (LG G3's screen was terrible in terms of colours and contrast ratio - need to check reviews to see if 50% higher contrast for G4 is actually real), and thicker, but with real leather, but LG actually packed a somewhat upper mid-range SoC. I guess it has the better selfie camera and you don't have to deal with TouchWiz. I am having a hard time understanding why pay $580+ for the LG G4 if you can pick up a Note 4 for $100 less? We'll wait to pass final judgement until I read the reviews that evaluate the battery life and camera performance/IQ and for LG to announce final pricing.

Looking forward to the review against the S6. I am not a fan of the faux carbon fiber front look of the G4. Looks somewhat cheap dead on center.

From an angle, it does look nice though.

The leather on the back looks awesome though. They really nailed that premium back look.

I wonder though if with the leather back the price will go closer to $700. The S6 is already dropping to $630 and is loaded to the grills with latest tech.

I can't quite put a finger on what makes the LG G4 actually standout - I guess the leather covers, 8MP selfie, removable battery and SD card? I can't quite figure out what's one thing "special" about the G4. The Z3/4 have beautiful metal construction and they are thin and water-proof. The S6/Egde have solid build, AMOLED screens, fastest SOC, fast UFS 2.0 memory. iPhone has ease of use, snappy OS.

Heck, I can't even answer why in the world I would pay $650+ for an LG G4 over a $350 Samsung S5. I really can't. I feel like S6, Note 5 and iPhone 6S will dominate the flagship space from now until early 2016 period. I don't think LG did enough here to differentiate its phone.

EDIT:

1. OK looks like the display is miles better than the terribad one in the G3. Good job LG on that front!

Still 3000 mAh battery in a 9.8mm thick body vs. iPhone 6's 6.9mm, Samsung S6's 6.8mm. Compared to the Z4, it's an engineering disappointment. The Z4 packs 2930 mAh battery in a 6.9mm thick all metal body, is water proof and packs the full S810 SoC with Adreno 430 graphics. I don't know what LG's engineers did here but they practically wasted almost 3mm of thickness on what exactly?! Sony might still surprise as they announced that Z4 is not their flagship for 2015.

The latest round of Android flagships = yawn, imo. Wake me up when there is something worth having - not just spec bumps, or some company finally adopting premium build quality six generations late.

Well as a phone for reading articles/news, pocket camera and a multi-media consumption, I feel like the S6 would be a massive upgrade from my iPhone 5S. The camera on the 5S is very disappointing for in-doors/low light scenes/at night. Also, that screen is starting to feel really cramped for me. However, if you want the phone to act as a computer where you can wirelessly connect 3x4K screens, stream 4K BluRay quality movies/sound to your smart TV, use it as a console for gaming, and have Siri that can actually carry a conversation with you, we are probably 10 years away from that

To be fair, first party (Google) also has plenty of bugs
