I wouldn't swear off a phone based solely on its display tech. As long as there's good picture quality, it's the overall experience that matters. I've used lousy AMOLED phones and great LCD phones.
That's a fair point, but simply put I have not seen any LCDs compare to the black levels and contrast that OLED offers and that's what I prefer. The assumption would be that their AMOLED would be at least as good as the Note 3's (which even my 2 year old Note 3 I felt had a much more appealing display than the V10's very good quality LCD). I know they used OLED on the bendable phones they made and it apparently had some issues (that caused the image to be grainy, it wasn't just a resolution issue either), so yeah that could be an issue, but if they're even remotely close to what Samsung is doing it'll be very worth it.
The overall phone does matter, but with Apple supposedly going AMOLED, and Samsung's being incredible, I'd have a very hard time justifying going LCD. And cost shouldn't be a big issue as the Moto X offered AMOLED a couple of years ago for wasn't it $299 (or maybe $399).
What are you guys on about? Pretty? Ugly? It is just another rounded-corner rectangle like any other rectangle we've had for the past few years. Sometimes there's a button here or there.
Seriously, am I not seeing the invisible unicorns and rainbows or something?
That's what I was thinking :^D
If that's ugly, they're all ugly. I wouldn't say that though. I think uninteresting and/or uninspiring would be better terms for all phones.
This. Considering people are going to slap cases on them, I don't know why anyone even cares about the base looks any more.
Oh and about worrying about AMOLED holding up, I wouldn't worry. My Note 3 held up very well. Even after 2 years, it was bright enough that I had it on the second lowest software brightness setting (and was comparable to high level of brightness on many other phones), and it absolutely demolished LCD phones in contrast. Colors I guess will depend, but I had it set to the one that offered the most correct color setting (compared to the hyper saturated one that some of the others offered) and it still looked great to me. Colors pop which makes images look incredible and gives them a dimensionality that LCDs just don't offer. And I never had issues with burn-in on mine.
